Hi Maryland Thanks for shareing your story. If you don't mind may I ask for some more info? Re affected veins. Are you able to have blood tests easily from that arm now? Also re Anastrozole. Last week my oncolgist arranged for hormone profile bloods and a bone density test . He thinks I may be borderline menopausal and that I'll be taking Anastrozole eventually. I'm rather worried about its side effects. What checks/tests have you had once you were taking it. Cheers Franci

Hi I've been recommened to have a Flu jab by my GP & ONC. Just finished FEC-T 100 a week ago and will start radiotherapy end of Oct I know my immune system is low and I wouldn't want to catch flu but has anyone had any adverse reaction to a flu jab during treatment? Cheers Franci x

Hi I'm Franci 50 years . Had WLI and full auxillary clearance in April.. 4 out of 26 nodes affected. Also as margins not clear will have mastectomy with free flap reconstuction after radiotherapy. Just had my 6th and last Chemo a week ago. ( 3x FEC 3x Tax) I am so glad it's over but still feel very scared about how long the after effects will contnue. I know many feel they can work through Chemo after cycle two I felt too vunerable to do so. I'm going back to work in 2 weeks and need to hear some positive feedback. I know each one of us will be different , but, I'd like to be prepared for what's to come. If there are any women who have had any of the following please tell me how it was for you. -Finger nails. How likely am I to loose my nails and when? -Thrombophlebits How long did it take for your arm veins to heal? -Burning underarms and shoulders. Will this subside or will it continue long term. -Hot flushes -Poor Sleep I know these topics may have been covered before but I'd really like some encouragement. Hi Macky The reasons an oncologist would recommend a Port or picc line are if you have a very long course of Chemo, because your veins are too thin or there has been a problem like mine. Before I started Chemo my oncolobgist looked at my veins and said they looked large and strong enough so did my first chemo nurse during my preassessment. I now wish I had been offered the port from the start as my arm reacted so badly to the cannula after 2nd FEC. Each person is different. I haven't used my port yet so don't yet know how it'll be. But from what I have heard from others it's much easier. I hope this helps in your choice of which method to go for. Good luck my dear. I pray you have a smooth journey ahead. Franci x

Has anyone had their implantable port fitted after starting chemo? How was it for you? Did your following chemo through port go smoothly? I'm having 3xFEC and 3xDocetaxel cycles. 2 days after 2nd FEC (1st July) my hand and lower arm veins became inflamed. Oncologist diagnosed thrombophletis. So I had a port fitted 3 days ago. 3rd FEC on 22nd July. My arm is getting better. Can anyone tell me how long their arm took to heal? Will chemo still affect my arm veins even after it goes through a port? Any info or helpful advise would be great. As now with two affected arms one from Axillary clearance and the other by this I need reasurrance I'll get stregth to arms back. Thanks so much Franci x

Anyone out there also not able to sleep. Since I was diagnosed in April it's been a steady decline of body and mind. Operation wide local incition margins not clear , now FEC-T chemo due to have 3rd of 6 on Tuesday. Had a tranplsntable port fitted in my chest on 16th July as thrombophlebitis in arm from 2nd Fec. Now both my arms are affected can't do arm exercises until port cuts heal. So feel for every step forward I go two steps back. Right now all I want to do is sleep but I can't! It's partly the hot 30c humid weather but mainly I'm so scared. I'm afarid of taking sleeping pills as don't want it to affect my breathing and thus cause problems with my port. Anyone out there feel the same? Would help to share. So please kindly reply.

Hi Cassa OH YES I'm prepared to have bad days . I only hope they will be few and far between. I am ER+, PR + but Her 2 Negative. My tumor turned out to be 39mm and my margins weren't clear. Once I have finished my Chemo, radiotherapy and mastectomy I'll be on hormone therapy oestrogen blockers tablets for 5 years . A long road ahead for both of us. Hi Cassa Thanks for sharing your journey. Both of us have a long journey to go . It's had at times for me too. So far day two and not too bad but very early days. Today I've injected my first of 8 Filgrastim injections. Are you on FEC-T 3x fec and 3xdocetaxel? Best wishes to you keep strong. cheers Franci

Hi Lisa C Thanks for telling me about your journey. Sorry you had problem with your vein. Can I ask whether your Dr or nurse daid if your damaged vein will heal eventually? It's now only day 2 after my Chemo and my vein feels normal.. How long after your did you get pain or was it straight away? Best Wishes

Hi Pomesgalore, Very usefu,l thank you so much . Do I have to bring my own ice cubes or does the chemo unit automatically provide them? As for steroids is poor sleep the only side effect? Hi This is my first time on Forum. I need some practical advise before I start Chemo. I had wide local excision and axillary clearance last month. Histology showed 35mm grade 2 . Lymph node clearance showed 4/26 . Margins not clear so will need mastectomy. But first I'm having FEC-T chemo , radiothetapy and then masyectomy with free flap reconstruction. Next step is Chemo FEC-T on Tuesday so I'd like have tips from gals who have had simular 3 x cycles FEC followed by 3 x cycles of docetaxel . CANNULA in hand. Pros and cons. Has anyone nanaged their whole 6 x cycles this way or did they have to have PICC line or Implant port ? COLD CAP does it work with FEC-T . I'm going to try it. Have been told to use conditioner in hair ,to make sure cap fits cotrectly and to take ibuprofen 1/2 hour before as can case headaches. Any other tips please Look forward to your advice and tips.
