My oncologist advised against anything with parabens - she actually said it would be good not to use anti-perspirants at all which I did follow while going through treatment. Now I use products without parabens, alcohol or aluminium - Nivea and Sanex do anti-perspirants without these but have just found three varieties in the Garnier Minerals range which are really nice.

Hi Shelsy, I have a very similar situation to you - invasive ductal cancer in the left breast, diagnosed after routine mammogram. Had WLE, 15mm tumour, no node involvement. Had 15 + 3 treatments of radiotherapy. Started on Tamoxifen in June - and been on all three brands! For me, I don't really think I thought about having to make a decision about whether to take them or not, I just wanted to do all that I could to stop it coming back so just took what my oncologist said. Before this, I hadn't been to the doctors in years, didn't take any tablets so I don't want to take anything unneccessary. I'm 54 but wasn't yet in the menopause and the only side effects I have had is that my periods have stopped. I may just be very lucky that I have not experienced any side effects. You have to feel comfortable about what you do and nobody can make that decision for you. You have to do whatever feels right for you. Michelle

I've been on Tamoxifen for 3 months - first brand was Wockhart, currently on Teva. I'm very lucky in that I've not had any bad side effects so far - a few hot flushes but at 54 I would think the menopause was imminent anyway. No aches, pains, sickness etc. So I count myself lucky but just noticed that my next brand dispensed is Relonchem.....should I really be worried? Are there any of you that have had a good experience with this brand?

Thanks everyone, this is all very helpful. I guess I just need to experiment a bit with timing although it sounds like the evening seems to suit most people. With regards to brands, I'll try these and see how I go but elsewhere on the forum I've seen mention that Teva seem slightly better. X

Thanks Lynda, I hope so too. Out of all the things that have happened over the past few months, taking Tamoxifen is the thing I dread most but I know it has to be done!

I'm not new to the forum in that I have followed it avidly since I was diagnosed in March 2014 but I haven't yet posted, . On March 11, I was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma, hormone positive. Following surgery for a WLE and SNB on March 20 it was a tumour of 15mm grade 1. There was no nodal involvement. My treatment plan was radiotherapy and Tamoxifen. I started radio on 19 May - 15 general and 3 boosters - and have my final treatment tomorrow. So I have a couple of questions: I was surprised when i picked up my Tamixofen yesterday to have to pay for them as I thought that drugs that you needed to take like this were exempt from charge? May have got this wrong but just thought I'd check. Secondly, there has been lots of talk on here about Tamoxifen and the different side effects from different brands. I had my prescription dispensed today and the brand was Wockhardt - is there really any difference? I am never ill (until this and then I go for the big one!) so don't really know my GP but she did call to see how i was doing and when I mentioned the brand stuff she told me that she had never had anyone complain about different brands so was just wondering? Also, last question! What is the best time to take the tablets? Thanks so much for your responses !
