Andrea i have just checked your last comment...i didnt have general anesthetic for Hickman, thought that was for the port?.i had local anesthesic and procedure was done in about 25 mins. Dr very efficient  and nurse good. There a bit of tugging/pulling but only pain was needles for local anesthetic. Good morning ladies and i hope for a good day for you I have had a grotty few days with lots of appointments. Taking bloods has been horrible and bruises everywhere. My veins have said noooooooo more. Infection and flebitus/cellulitus in arm along with blood clots around picc line which was then removed...only in for 2 weeks! Andrea i spoke with my consultant and was basically told i was between a rock and a hard place and and a Hickman line was best option. I was due to have it fitted 1.30 on Wed but when i arrived it turns out they hadn taken the right bloods and because i am on blood thinning injections it had to be checked......long story but I had done right by leaving out an injection day before....eventually got Hickman fitted 4.30. Pretty upset by this time. HOWEVER andrea the procedure was okay..bit uncomfortable but had fec 3 yesterday, less than 24 hours after fitting and it was quick and no vein problems....only older ones from first and second treatments. Now halfway. I agree it is a full time job but can't wait to get back to my real world. Any other teachers out there? Thanks bali and ade I am going to talk to my consultant. I am worried about having hickman because of problems i have had with picc line. Fed up that my biggest issues seem to be with getting the chemo in to me rather than the chemo itself! Still i had week off and feel so much stronger....so not looking forward to starting up again this thursday! Hi to you all can i join you? I have been reading all the posts as i started my chemo on14th august. Been with you all in spirit. I am having trouble with my veins and wanted to ask about the hickman line? I had a picc line after fec 1 and it worked for fec 2. Then unfortunately i got infection in my chemo arm . After scan they found problems with picc so took it out and chemo delayed this week. Now they want to put in Hickman.....help! Hi maz  I had appt with consultant yesterday. Nodes clear and mx healing well. Clear margins and her+. I have some cording so have extra stretches to do. Next wait is for appt with oncologist. Bcn described the likely treatment and it sounded just like yours. 6 chemo treatments and herceptin. Very worried about next step but know it all has to happen.bad enough with left side mx let alone all my hair falling out!  How are you doing macky? Jayni x ... View more

Hi macky I had mx and snb at start of july. Been waiting for results. Seeing consultant tomorrow and then oncologist. Been on a rollercoaster and scared about next dip . Still sore after op. Hi redrose What alot you have been through.at least now you are getting treatment. Sounds like you will have good support around you. I had my diagnosis, biopsies and mri very quickly and was in state of denial. Couldnt believe all this was happening to me. I had mx and sn surgery on 1st july and will be seeing consultant on thursday to find out when chemo starts. Is your chemo this week or next week? Well whenever it is i hope goes okay for you. Hi jk7704 My thoughts are with you...hardest bit is all the waiting. Like all rest i want to get back to normal and on with my life instead of this. The mri is not too bad. I had first one few weeks back and even though it was noisy the nurse was lovely. She kept telling me how many minutes for each image and that made it seem shorter. Hi julie What a dilemma! All you want to do is forget all this horrible stuff and go away for a holiday that you have been looking forward to for so long. Just ask yourself - Do you think that you can put it out of your mind for the length of the trip or will you wake up every day and think about what lies ahead?  I work in a school and know how annoying the holiday timings can be......but you can look ahead and plan/book another trip knowing dates well in advance...if that is your decision.  What does your daughter think? Hi Toulula I had my mx  on 1st along with snb. I have had lots of loss of sensation and tingling. But woke upthis morning and found that there is raised line under my arm. Hi pauls Have been following this group and seen that i am going through similar to you. I had mx surgery on 1st july and am sitting round trying to get over op. i am waiting for results of sentinel node surgery too. My appt is on 17th and it seems so far away. I know i have to have chemo when revovered from op but it all seems so unreal. Feels like i am talking about someone else. Hope you are recovering well.
