I can recommend the Simple products especially shampoo and conditioner. Also nail care products and varnishes from foot healthfirst.com - non of the horrid components of normal nail varnishes and the cuticle oil kept my very damaged nails looking reasonable. Best of luck with your treatment xxx

Hi all - just to let you all know I used a very good nail oil and varnishes while going through my chemo, radiotherapy and Herceptin treatment - I got it from foothealthfirst.com. It doesn't have any of the damaging components of normal nail varnishes and the oil was a life-saver for me and I didn't lose any. Just a tip from someone nearly at the end of this horrible journey. Horseslave - I found salt water mouth washes the best thing for my mouth ulcers, 3-4 times a day. And yes, I was very much a house-bound bed bug for months. You'll come alive again when it's all over. Ruby xxx

Hi Wendy Herceptin injections have been absolutely fine. I don't think any of my SE's relate to them although I have had my first 4 at the same time as my chemo so a little difficult to distinguish what causes what!!! Feeling a lot brighter now as each day passes and I move away from chemo. To all you guys still having chemo - stay strong and steadily count each day as an achievement. You will get there and we'll all be stronger women when it's all over. Love Ruby x

Hi I've just finished four sessions of Taxotere and cyclophosphamide with Herceptin. I wore the cold cap each time and although I shed a lot no one would notice (except my family) and I haven't needed hats. IFound it uncomfortable for about ten mins and then your head goes numb. Make sure hair very damp and put on conditioner. Also make sure the fit is tight. I think it very much depends on your treatment regime too. Good luck xx

Hi everyone I've been missing for ages trying to recover from my final Tax session - day 13 today and still so so tired, all other SE's gone now and looking forward to my radiotherapy planning appt next Monday. I'm having 20 consecutive days starting on 27th Oct so finish date of 21 Nov - hurrah. Then just 13 more Herceptin injections together with hormone treatment for 100 years and then I'm done!!! Doesn't it just seem to go on forever??!!!! Can u tell I'm fed up with it all now?? They did warn me I'd feel blue after chemo finished - I just didn't believe them!!! Never mind - onwards and upwards everyone - it's Christmas soon 😜 xxxx

Indigestion tips - don't take any painkillers on any empty stomach. Try not to eat within two hours of going to bed. Take Omeprazole on an empty stomach. Good luck Ruby

Hiya all Sorry I've not been on but had a horrid week for one reason or another (not chemo related!) and have ended up very short of breath and with probable gastritis from too much Naproxen and all the other meds!! 😝. Anyway feeling a bit better today and need to pick myself up ready for my last tax on Thursday. 😃🎉👍. I've been reading the latest posts and sense an underlying great wave of happiness as everyone approaches the final leg of this horrid treatment. My son described it as your body running a Marathon everyday, on the inside - he's only 14 and I thought that was quite a clever analogy! Anyway here's to another week. Everyone keep their heads up, or on a pillow!!! It will soon all be over Love Ruby xxx

Hi Mel I've had 3 rounds of TC&H and have worn the cold cap each time. I still have a full head of hair. It appears everybody is different and every concoction of treatment results in different side effects. My advice is take one day at a time, deal with the SE's (if and when they come) - before you know it it's coming to an end. Best of luck. Ruby

Hi George I am currently going through TC & Herceptin. I've had three sessions so far with my last next Thursday. I've used the cold cap and though I have shed a lot of hair, I still have a full covering with no need for wigs or scarves. I get bone pain two days following the chemo which is due to the Neulasta injection boosting my bone marrow to produce more white blood cells - so that's my body doing what it should. I do feel rough (fluey and aches) for 3-4 days after chemo and get mouth ulcers but they clear after a week. No nail loss so far (wear dark nail varnish to protect nail beds). It has pushed me into the change (think that's the Herceptin though) so im getting hot flushes). As I said, I am nearing the end now and I do get tired but in 3 weeks it will all be over. It does seem to whizz by once you get started. Any more questions don't hesitate to ask. Ruby xxx

Hi ladies - I had IDC stage 1 grade 2 ER and PR positive, HER2 + diagnosed in June. I have had a lumpectomy and two lymph nodes removed. I am currently 3/4 of the way through chemo, I'm having Herceptin injections (18 over the next year), will start radiotherapy in October and then have hormone treatment. Sounds a lot of treatment but I consider myself lucky that it's all available. My view is, why would you not give yourself the best chance of beating BC. Ok, so chemo is no fun but you get through the SE's and at the end of the day when treatment is all finished you can sit back and say you did all you could. Hi Slydog The chillow is definitely cool but I didn't like the hardness of it under my head. Even though it slides into your pillowcase, it feels so different I just couldn't get comfortable. However, as I said my husband has slept soundly with if for 5 nights now - shame I can't give him the hot flushes too!!! Xxx

Hiya all Looks like the docetaxel is hitting everyone hard! Me too, still, and I'm on day 8 of 3rd one with final one to go. Chest pain, sleeplessness, mouth soreness counteracted with constant painkillers, daytime naps and Difflam with salt water mouthwashes. Oh my god this is hard at 3.31am when you're up wide awake when all you need is a good nights sleep!!! Anyone else getting hot flushes all night too?? Might be because I'm on Herceptin too? I got a 'chillow' to help - I hated it but my husband love it. He's now sleeping even more soundly!! My countdown to the end of chemo is 14 days (plus SE's). It just can't go fast enough😜 Well done to all you brave women. We will get through this and hopefully pop back to later threads to encourage the poor souls just starting their journey - think positive😘 I'm off to do another night-time Soduko! Ruby xxxx

Slydog I had third tax yesterday and they had trouble getting my cannula in too. All ok after 3rd attempt but they told me your veins do garden up a bit as you go through!! Sleeplessness/tiredness is very much an issue for me too - caused by a combination of steroids, hot flushes, need for the loo all night and my mind racing the minute I wake up. I figure most of this will pass when chemo finishes so in trying not to worry about it too much. I work from home so as long as I have 2-3 hours of alert time each day, I can cope. My advice, sleep when you can - or at least rest. I think it's the injections that start the bone pain, so dose up on painkillers before you start. I give myself Neulasta which is one big dose this evening so by Sunday night I would be in agony but now I'm getting the hang of it I start my painkillers today and it dulls them all to an ache rather than a pain. You may not suffer as badly as you're having the injections spread out a bit but good luck whatever Xxx

Wp23 I keep a record of drugs taken too, it's incredibly easy to forget what you've taken and when for the first week as you take so many. I write out a list of what I plan or need to take and then highlight when it goes in my mouth. Good luck for the weekend Ruby xx
