My sis-in-law told me today that my niece bought into school (she's in baby infants) an artwork we had done together and that I got framed and she then told every how we made it and all about me being an artist and also about me doing art with patients in hospital- so sweet! Hi all, Well done on the anniversary Cecelia and on work Ruby - hope the hen night was fun. I've been back in hospital - home now - as blood is gone haywire and I've been getting iv blood supplements - magnesium, potassium etc. Wouldn't believe how tired I am. I also have peripheral neuropathy - very painful in my feet but Lyrica seems to be getting it under control. Hands aren't so bad - just very sensitive. Think it happened when I was in hospital the last time for 6 weeks as I had a catheter in which resulted in me having to learn to work again as I was in bed solidly for 4 weeks. Dilys, been getting through your book list and reading as much as I can. Glad to be finally home as I am working on artwork for an exhibition opening on the 4th December - so I'm up against it time wise. Hi Katie, I have secondaries in my liver since last March and have had a distended stomach on and off since then. I look pregnant some days - very attractive. My onc says my liver and spleen is enlarged and that I also have ascites- fluid in abdomen. Hope this helps you Kate, xxxxx ... View more

Hi Hannah, I am so sorry to hear your bad news. I really hope your visit to your onc is a good one and has no more bad news. Do you remember, we chatted on here when we were going through AC and Taxol. I was diagnosed with secondaries last March at 29. I think I've spent over 5 months in hospital in the last 6 or 7 months. Hi everyone, Dilys, mucositis (sp?) is an inflammation of the digestive tract, and for me the mouth and throat, and happens to a lot of chemo patients. had it very badly when i was I was in hospital that time for seven weeks-blood flowing form ulcers in my mouth and couldn't swallow anything. now have more news, i'm back in hospital today, just got the call, as i have an blood infection which could mean septcaemia since I had chemo only yesterday. I'll be on the iv antibiotics again. fingers crossed it will clear up quickly. Good news is that i have only 3/18 chemos left now. wow, can't believe it! I'm very selfish with keeping in contact! hope you are all doing well. i feel bad. Hi all, I hope you are all doing ok. Jo, Sorry to hear about your husband, I really hope he will be ok and hope you have good news with your doctor apts on Thursday and enjoy France. it's so nice to get away. I'm looking to doing that once i finish my treatment. Topper, I'm sorry to hear your bad news. Hop it will be a "splendid" affair and you both find something to wear. I hope you will have happy memories as well as tears too. HI Dilys, sounds like a lovely time for your husband "birthday". That's so sweet. Cecelia, that is fab about the lung lesion. Must be such a relief. Well, I'm waiting for an apt for a chat with my onc next Thursday. The lesion which I thought was in my right lobe of the liver is actually in the right lobe of my lung. I think the plan is to do more scans when I've finished my six cycles of chemo. Being feeling a bit more sickly this week as last week I requested the 100% dosage again and not the 75% dosage which I have been on since I left hospital. I also want to request the bone scan for as soon as poss as they have said they would prefer to do it when I'm finish chemo. I have 7 more to do and should be finished by the end of september. Hi everyone, So sorry for the long delayed reply. I feel terrible for it. I've just not been on the internet at all lately but that's not to say I don't miss you all and all your news. Firstly, Happy Birthday to you Cecelia. Hope you have a lovely weekend. Dilys, your story about the cats made me sad. Poor little thing. Ruby, can't believe what nearly was a terrible accident for you and your nephew. Anyways, I am more than halfway through my chemo. Have another 8 to do, I think. Had my half-way scan results last week and the news wasn't as hopeful as I wished it would be. Some of the liver mets have shrunk a bit but some haven't and there is one new big tumour in my right lobe that wasn't there before. I am also waiting on a bone scan as the ct showed lesions on my lumbar spine and pelvis. Let's keep keep our fingers crossed it's not bone mets. I'll let you know. Been kept busy with yoga and relaxation classes in the local cancer care centre and I did an expressive art course there too. Might try the creative writing course next. Was gonna join their bc support group but apparently nobody else there has secondaries and I might give them a bit of a scare with my story. Also, the local hospice home care nurses have been really good to me and their social worker. Hi, here I am again. Feeling bit more energetic today so I can post, yay! The weather is lovely, isn't it. Walked into town with my Mum today and there was a great buzz - big festival on here. Think I had kinda forgotten the outside world a bit after my hospital stay. One of the weirdest thing is I kinda have to learn to write again - can you believe it! Your muscles seem to forget how to do things very quickly. Even the first time I walked up a stairs a last week was funny on my leg muscles and I can't run properly either. In other news, we are moving, my Mum is going to stay with me and Tim while I'm on chemo and look after me. I'm so lucky to have my family who were so good to me when I was really sick. It's nice and big so we can my brothers and sisters stay whenever they come visit which is cool. O another funny thing is that I don''t remember hardly any of my hospital stay at all! Think it was 'cos I was on loads of morphine etc. I remember April 17th - my birthday and the next proper day I remember is the 6th May! and I only have vague memories of in between! Hi everyone, just a quick one to tell you I;m home from hospital since last Thursday and I'm back on chemo. Have had two so far on top of the two I had before I got really sick. Just next week's one to do and I have cycle two done. Still haven't started avastin as very weak still since been sick. Thank you for all the lovely emails, notes and cards. It means a lot to me. Hi Cecelia, Draining the fluid should hopefully ease the pain and discomfort. But sometimes the fluid comes back just as quick so only continued chemo will ease the pain and swollen stomach with the fluid. I get weak if I'm upright so that might be causing the nausea but the nurse said the morphine can do it too, or the pain. Today, they gave a higher dose of morphine and I swear to God I was having hallucinations for a couple of hours. i was definitely in two realities. Hilarious!!! Not sure when I get home and I don't mind. I have no energy so this is the best place for me to keep feeling well. I agree about the strength. Appetite went on Saturday but definitely coming back again and they gave me something to boost it. Hope you Mum is doing ok Jo and the aged OH Karen. I'm in a cancer ward so I am hearing lots of sad and also encouraging stories. Great fun meeting people though. Sorry to hear about the stressful Easter Cecelia, that's crap! hi lovely ladies, My sister brought in her laptop to the hospital to me so I can update you, as she is heading back to Dublin and I won't be on-line again for a while. So, I had an ultrasound today and tomorrow when results are back they will do an ultrasound-guided drain of the ascites (fluid in abdomen) if that is is indeed what is causing all the problems. I have extensive mets in both lobes of the liver and the abdomen lymph nodes so that is probably causing problems too but the liver is very resilient. And yippy, I had chemo today which has given me a bit of a boost. I am only letting family visit as i am very exhausted. Yesterday, I thought I was ok and went down to the foyer wit my nephew and brother and ended up vomiting in the bin!!! eeeek! So really taking it easy. I am getting Vitamin K for the next few days for my blood and also Neutropenia injections or someting to help my whit blood cells, not sure of the name but it isn't neulasta which i got when I did chemo before. And woohoo, I actually ate my dinner today, well some of it which is a good sign and Dilys, yes the pain was the worst thing I ever hd to go through! Never again. Gonna go now asI am tired out again. Hi everyone, Just a quick update. I'm back in hospital since Saturday night. From when I went home on Thursday last I had pain that became so excruciating. Worst time of my whole life. I really hope I never have to experience it again soon. On high morphine injections since but have been vomiting and getting nausea really badly too. Appetite is gone but can manage melon. Think I will be kept in for a while now so that my pain can be managed. Gonna go now as I am really exhausted and just sleep most of the time if not feeling sick. I have a scan of abdomen tomorrow where they will decide whether I can get ascites drained or what is the problem. Really though I am in good hands now and will hopefully still get chemo tomorrow.
