I had my appt today, been referred for ultrasound. I know the lump is a fibroadenoma (biopsied in October) but I am now worrying there's something else round it! Feel like I'm back to square one. X

Hi Sazzy, when I had an ultrasound done (no mammo due to my age) the radiologist was pretty certain it was benign and she was right. They know their stuff although I totally understand it doesn't take away the worry! Xx

Hi TD, CRP is an inflammation marker so that'll be why yours is high. I had a similarly high level when I had cellulitis on my leg and was admitted to hospital for it. Hopefully all will be ok, it sounds like your lump could be an abscess! I had one on my leg (eventually resulting in cellulitis!)? and the story of how it progressed sounds very similar to yours. Will keep everything crossed for you. Xx

Hi Janey, All clinics are different in terms of what they have (for example I had a breast exam done at a community hospital but then the ultrasound and biopsy at a hospital in the town centre) but I had the following experiences - breast exam done by a nurse, ultrasound, core biopsy (they didn't do a fine needle aspiration on my lump as it was in an awkward place and too fiddly for the nurse). After the core biopsy I was seen 5 days later for results which, thankfully, showed that the lump was a benign fibroadenoma. I didn't have a mammogram because of my age (29). I have just been re-referred by my GP as I am having loads of pain round the lump and she said straight away she wants me rechecked and to get a second opinion, but I am trying not to worry to much as fibroadenomas do not turn cancerous. Kitt, your BC sounds like my mum's. She had a stage 2, grade 1 tumour with no node involvement. She had a lumpectomy and rads and, fingers crossed, will be celebrating 5 years clear in August. Hope you are keeping well. Xx

Hi Shaz, Not knowing is scary and I am not surprised that you feel the way you do. I am 29 and went through the whole scan, biopsy etc process in October and was thankfully found to have a benign fibroadenoma. However, I am now being re-referred to the breast clinic after experiencing horrible pain round the fibroadenoma area. I was expecting to go to the GP and walk away with prescription painkillers, but the GP did an exam and said she wanted me to go back to the breast clinic for a second opinion! Argh! I shouldn't be worried really but there is that little bit of niggling doubt there, especially with my less than favourable family history! Really glad you went out and had a good time, keeping busy definitely works now and again. I'm a teacher and it is such a busy job it certainly keeps me from thinking about boobs all day! Lol! Hope you feel ok. Xx

Hi lovely, The clinical term for a breast mouse is a fibroadenoma. I am 29 and I have one (diagnosed by ultrasound and biopsy so there is no doubt as to what it is!). Mine is hard and although it doesn't move around that much, it isn't completely fixed. If I hold my arms in the air I can see mine quite clearly even though it is only 13mm. Could you maybe go back and see a different GP to get referred? 2 weeks of worrying is a long time and I found all the worry re my lump way worse than any of the tests!

Hi all, I am 29 and found this forum to be a huge source of support back in October when I had a breast lump scanned and biopsied. Thankfully it turned out to be a benign fibroadenoma. I went to the GP today as the lump is constantly painful and it is driving me mad. If my boyfriend even goes near my boob I tell him to go away and the lump feels like it is extremely bruised and is very tender to touch. It has been like this for a while and I initially thought it was hormonal, but the pain is getting worse and much more frequent. Anyway, I expected to go to the GP and walk away with some sort of painkiller but I have been re-referred back to the breast clinic! I asked her what she thought of the lump and she said "well the area just feels lumpy". She put me through the 2 week referral, probably because of history and due to the fact that I have BC in my family. Thankfully I am nowhere near as worried as last time as the lump hasn't grown (well I don't think it has anyway) but I really wasn't expecting to be back at the clinic so soon. No idea what tests they will do, she said maybe an ultrasound? Simultaneously I am worried the breast nurses/doctors will think I am wasting their time turning up there with breast pain!

Hi Rosemary. I am 29 years old and have just had a scare myself. Thankfully the lump turned out to be a fibroadenoma. My mum (now 54) was diagnosed with stage 2 BC in 2010. She knew something had been found on the mammogram, but only told us a few days before she was going for diagnostic tests. In a selfish way, I thought this was the best way forward as we didn't have weeks of worrying, but she didn't keep us in the dark over the fact that she had to go to hospital for the day for diagnostic tests. Rachel I had those exact symptoms last year and ended up testing positive for helicobacter pylori, a bacterial infection of the stomach. It can be cleared up with a megadose of antibiotics, it is maybe worth asking your doctor about it if he/she hasn't pursed that avenue already. X

Hi Elsa. I have just been through exactly the same experience. I was shaking on Wednesday waiting outside the room for my results, but I was told my lump is a fibroadenoma. It has just hit me now how lucky I am and how many women are not as lucky as I am. It is a very scary experience and I am now more vigilant than ever at checking my boobs! Hi everyone, I got my results the other day and much to my relief my lump is a 13mm fibroadenoma. It gets extremely painful 2 weeks before my period, so much so that it hurts to touch. At the appointment the consultant said they don't remove fibroadenomas unless they are large and they don't increase the risk of developing BC. I have a family history officially assesses by genetics as moderate risk, and part of me would just like to be rid of it although I get the feeling that if I asked for this to be done on the NHS they'd say no as mine is small?
