Hi I had a mastopexy in the "healthy" breast to try and match up the reconstruction of the other. This was carried out in August last year. I expected the scars to have reduced by now but have redness, bumps and itching. I saw my surgeon a few weeks ago and he said I have keloids. He used a steroid injection but they are returning. I have seen some natural alternatives to try, e.g. manuka honey, lavendar oil, tea tree oil, but nothing seems to be working. Just wondered if anyone has had this problem and found anything that gets rid of the keloids. Thank you, Julia

Just read your post to Jessie. I had a lumpectomy 9 years ago. At the time I was advised to have a mastectomy as they said I might need one anyhow. As it turns out I didn't. Had no problems with the surgery and was back at work after a couple of weeks before radiotherapy for a month. In July 2015 the cancer returned. I had a mastectomy this time with reconstruction. Have had four ops, three for lipomodelling as I decided agianst an implant. My comment to you is, since the mastectomy (18 months ago now) I have had constant tightness and pulling. The aesthetic look is quite good but the discomfort is not something I had expected or been warned about. So glad I didn't have the mastectomy all those years ago when I was in my early 40's. Absolutely agree! Generally happy with my surgery but wish I'd been given some advise on scar which I'm now having problems with.

Had mastopexy in August 2016 to match reconstruction. Absolutely no loss of sensation but having bit of problem with sutures under the skin.

Hello I had a mastectomy in July 2015 following by three fat filling ops to create a new breast. The last op in August 2016 I also had a mastopexy op on the "good" breast to level up with the reconstructed one. I am having a problem with the vertical scar which is not losing its redness and has small bumps under the skin. It has also started itching quite badly four months after the operation. I saw another surgeon this week to query this and was told it looks like the sutures are not dissolving and my body is rejecting them. He suggested rubbing on ibuprofen gel to see if it reduces the inflammation for a couple of weeks. So far there are no stitches coming through the skin or any broken skin. Wondering if anyone else has experienced this and whether the sutures will dissolve eventually.. Thanks for reading and good luck everyone with whatever stage you're at. Julia

Hi TracyH Sorry to hear about the problems you've had. In the end I decided not to have implants. My last operation (in August) was the third attempt at fat filling on the reconstructed breast and an uplift on the "good" breast to ensure they matched. After the mastectomy in July 2015 and three further operations, I am fairly happy with the result. My surgeon and I discussed a possible final fat filling in a year's time once everything has completely settled down, if I wish. From an aesthetic point of view, with a bra on, you cannot tell I've had a mastectomy. With no bra, there is a big difference in nipple size but apart from that, pretty well matched. On physical side, my reconstructed breast pulls to the left when I move my arm which is annoying but apart from having botox injections, they could not do anything about this. It also feels very tight running from the front of the the breast into the armpit. But I have kind of got used to it! Good luck with any further operations you undergo. It's such a long process...!!!

Hello I had my third operation for lipomodelling about a month ago. (mastectomy May 2015 with reconstruction but no implant. The other two ops for lipomodelling did not cause any pain in the "new" breast (only pain where the fat was harvested from). However, for the last two days I have been experiencing a sharp pain in one area of the breast. Wondering if this is normal, maybe part of the fat getting softer, or something to have check out. Hi I had DIEP reconstruction last summer and have had 2 lots of lipo - first time just from thighs - did wear cycle shorts down to calves for about a month; second time - from thighs and also "muffin top". I found it too painful to pull the cyle shorts over my thighs and up to my waist due to all the incision areas. Therefore, didn't wear the shorts. Have noticed that there are dips in my legs this second time, which I didn't have the first. Good luck anyway. I'm facing a third lipo in September as the fat keeps dispersing back into my body 😞

Hello i had a mastectomy last summer and reconstruction using muscle from my back. I have ongoing issues with constant tightness and my breast jerks to one side unless my arm is relaxed. Saw my surgeon today and he suggested botox injections to relax the muscle. I am concerned as I know botox is a poison and have just read that it can spread from where it is injected to other areas of the body. I would love to not have this "jerking breast" but wonder if it's worth the risk. Has anyone else had this experience? Thanks for reading Julia

Hi Dawn Thank you so much for all that information! That really helps and has given me hope.. One question, do you know whether your friend has discomfort from the implants? As I have a significant amount of pulling, tightness etc from the reconstruction, am concerned that if I have implants that will be further discomfort. But I would really be keen to have something that I'm happy with and for both breasts to match! Also, has the implant in the "good" breast resulting in any loss of feeling do you know? Think I would be keen to have an implant in both as well if I go ahead as it might stop the normal "gravity" in one and not the other!! Just had my first mammogram on the other since the cancer and awaiting the result... Will decide what to do after that. Thanks again! 🙂 Julia

Thank you for your reply. I wish I'd had an immediate implant. As the surgeon thought he could recreate without using an implant but just fat transfer, it was left. I already have constant tightness so wondered whether an implant on top of this would make the discomfort even worse. Thanks again. Julia

Hello I wonder if anyone could help with my enquiry. I had a mastectomy last May with immediate reconstruction (muscle taken from the back) but no implant. My surgeon suggested just lipomodelling to create the new breast once I'd healed from the mastectomy. In September I had the first lipomodelling taking fat from my thighs. Within 3 weeks most of the fat had reabsorbed back into the body although I was left with a small amount. Had a second go in February. This also had reabsorbed and I'm a lot smaller than the other untreated breast (although I am only a 34C size). I have quite considerable tightness and muscle constriction which makes my breast jerk to one side. The surgeon suggested that he would put in an small implant if this second lipomodelling op didn't work. I have read that implants can feel like foreign objects. Although i would like the procedure, as I already have tightness and restriction am wondered that if I go ahead, the discomfort will be even worse. Have anyone had a similar experience please? Hi, I had a mastectomy in May last year and like you was advised to just have lipomodelling without an implant as my size was 34B cup. My surgeon expected it to be one session. I had this done in September and very quickly there was reabsorption of I would say about 50%. I have been left with a very small breast but there is some shape there and a slight cleavage. I am booked to have another op for lipomodelling at the end of this month. The surgeon is hopeful that should suffice but if not, we will look at having a small implant. I am less confident of a good result and if you do go ahead, be aware that how it looks straight after the op is not how it will look in a couple of months. I was very unhappy straight after as it looked like a hard lump on my chest but as the fat gets soft it relaxes and is much better. Good luck with whatever you decide.

Hello, I had breast cancer and a mastectomy in May 2015 with immediate partial reconstruction using laparoscopy at Worthing Hospital. I did not have an implant but in September had lipomodelling from my thigh to fill the breast. I am due to have another lipomodelling in the next month. My problem and query to anyone out there is the tightness I feel which goes from under arm right into and across the breast. In addition to tightness, which I have read that others have experienced, I have something which I find rather weird. When I tighten my arm, the reconstructed breast moves across horizontally to the left (it was the left breast that I had the op on). It is so obvious that you can see it even through my clothes. would really appreciate to hear from anyone else who has this problem. My surgeon said ref the tightness that some consultants cut the nerve but he chooses not to as it can cause muscle atrophy. Thank you. Julia

Hi, I had a mastectomy in May with immediate reconstruction but no implant. They took a muscle from my back to create the flap and this was done laparoscopically so only have a scar in my armpit - nothing on back or front. I then had liposuction from my thighs in September and injected into breast to increase the size. I need another operation to do the same as much of the fat has reabsorbed into the rest of my body. Still finding the tightness quite hard to cope with and it feels like I have an iron bar inside running from the armpit through to the chest area. However, things are much better than immediately and a few weeks after the operation. Has anyone had the lipomodelling and found it successful? Julia
