I now had my excision biopsy for radial scar and the results are benign. I have not yet been given the full pathology report but my doctor has not mentioned any other conditions found. He removed 10 grams of tissue but he says it is not possible to tell if all is out. I am not sure what the next step will be yet. I am waiting for the recommendations in terms of follow up etc. I have many questions in my mind. - Am I likely to get more radial scars? - Will this likely to upgrade to a more serious lesion? - What will they see on mammogram / ultrasound next time around? I feel like I should get one soon. - They removed the radial scar but could there still be something behind it? - Can I use HRT ? etc Thanks for your support everybody.

Now they have decided that I will have an excision biopsy and MRI and Vacuum biopsy not needed since my imaging was clear enough and the mass is too big to remove with vacuum biopsy. The doctors letter to GP said it is "suggestive" of radial scar. So hopefully they will not find a nasty surprise there.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. My core biopsy doesn't show any atypia. They measured the radial scar as 2cm. My surgeon said that it will need to be removed. I have an MRI booked next week. From what I read they might find more issues after MRI. I sometimes have aches under my arms but never discovered a lump. It is good to know that they will look at this area as well. My mammogram was clear 2 years ago when I went due to a cyst so this radial scar has grown to this size in 2 years. I might also need a Vacuum biopsy. Waiting for confirmation after the weekly meeting that doctors have every week to discuss the cases. I am concerned about upgrade or new findings at this stage. Fingers crossed.

Hi, I see that you have all gone though this experience. I wanted to add my case. I wrote the same note to Ask Nurses section as well. I am not very familiar with this website. I received a diagnosis of 2 cm Complex sclerosing lesions/ Radial Scar after Core Biopsy. 4 samples were taken. Surgeon told me that I will need an operation to remove it. However, prior to the surgery I may need MRI and also vacuum biopsy. What other information they are hoping to get from these tests? Is Vacuum biopsy more comprehensive ? Is there a possibility that the diagnosis is wrong at this stage ? Also does MRI scan both breasts and armpit area ? I have asked for my mammogram, ultrasound and pathology reports but although they say yes, they don't share them with me. Perhaps to avoid further questions due to my anxiety. I don't know if it has atypia. I read this increases the risk. Thank you very much

If you had a breast cancer screening, did you get the results of mammogram, ultrasound on the same day ? Or did you have to wait? Do they give you the result of the fine needle biopsy at the same time with other tests (mammogram and ultrasound) ? I know that core biopsy results take longer to come back. I have an appointment on Monday but a vague idea about what to expect. I am sick with worry. With my family we are going away to see family for Xmas on the 19th, we are flying so family not close by. I am worried that I will have to postpone appointments and they will not tell me the results on the phone as well. And don't want to tell about this to anybody since I don't want to ruin my kids and family's Xmas.
