Ribociclib and zoledronic acid

Hi winter sun

I can’t comment on Ribociclib, but I too am on Exemestane (with Zoladex) and Zoledronic acid infusions.

The side effects of Exemestane, on the whole have been acceptable, although after 6 months and a very hot summer, the hot flashes were happening frequently at night. They’ve now settled back to a few before bed time. About the same time my stiff joints were becoming noticeable. It only seems to be the first few minutes of movement, after a period of rest - so again I can manage that.

The Zoledronic Acid, I personally see as a win-win treatment. Improve the density of bones and also helps reduce risk of spread to bones in the future. The infusion takes about 15mins, plus time to insert canula and flush through. I’ve had two, and on both occasions felt a bit flu like the next day, which only lasted 24-48 hours.

The most scary side effect of ZA, is the risk of jaw necrosis, from someone who has lots of fillings that was a big concern. So it’s important to keep good oral hygiene and see your dentist regular, so any issues can be treated quickly, and prevent it becoming serious.

Hope that helps x
