Ribociclib and zoledronic acid

Hi everyone, please could i get your experiences in taking Ribociclib and also Zoledronoc.
Ive been on the prostrap injection aand exemestane for the past 6months and not too many side effects. 37 years and now in menopause!
My Oncologists has recomended i try these other 2 preventative drugs. The zoledronic is a transfusion so not so keen on that!
Just wondered how anyone else was getting on with either of them? Thank you as always

I have ibandronic acid tablets instead of the zoledronic infusion. I will see how it goes, but I think I’d prefer the infusion. You have to take the tablet when you get up and you have to stay upright for an hour. You can eat after 30 mins. I’ve only just started it so still getting used to it. My oncologist also told me having it 2-3 times a week is enough but there’s no data and the trial was every day. I had the infusion while on chemo. They did it over 30 minutes and I had no additional side effects.

There’s a good thread on ribociclib thats worth looking at.

Hi winter sun

I can’t comment on Ribociclib, but I too am on Exemestane (with Zoladex) and Zoledronic acid infusions.

The side effects of Exemestane, on the whole have been acceptable, although after 6 months and a very hot summer, the hot flashes were happening frequently at night. They’ve now settled back to a few before bed time. About the same time my stiff joints were becoming noticeable. It only seems to be the first few minutes of movement, after a period of rest - so again I can manage that.

The Zoledronic Acid, I personally see as a win-win treatment. Improve the density of bones and also helps reduce risk of spread to bones in the future. The infusion takes about 15mins, plus time to insert canula and flush through. I’ve had two, and on both occasions felt a bit flu like the next day, which only lasted 24-48 hours.

The most scary side effect of ZA, is the risk of jaw necrosis, from someone who has lots of fillings that was a big concern. So it’s important to keep good oral hygiene and see your dentist regular, so any issues can be treated quickly, and prevent it becoming serious.

Hope that helps x
