10 days post op and results are in !!!

Hi there well im 10 days post op had a right mx with full node clearance and expander implant at the same time. Had my results yesterday i have grade 3 invasive ductual multifocal cancer with 1 out of the 17 nodes removed testing positive. The tumor was 5.5cm in size by 2.3cm so quite large. I was lucky as it was approaching my chest wall and they where lucky enough to get clear margins there. So all in all the tumour has gone the nodes are all gone and i am now awaiting chemo appointment. I also tested her2+++ and estrogen positive also so hormone therapy will be thrown at me too. Should be starting chemo within the next 3-4 weeks so any advice would be greatly appreciated xxxx

Hi Penny

I haven’t had a mastectomy, but that could still be on the cards. Also got the unexpected upgrade to Grade 3, and the HER2+ status as well as Er+ and Pr+, so it’s almost the full works for me, and still the possibility of mastectomy. Just have to wait for re-excision results.

I’m considering having a portacath fitted to make chemo and herceptin easier as they’ll be digging around our veins for a year, so might be something you’d find useful. I have started a thread on here about portacath asking for people’s experiences, so keep an eye out for that.

But we can do this (she whispers tentatively). It’ll be scary, it’ll be tough, it’ll almost certainly make us feel crap, but yes, WE CAN DO THIS!!!

Hi Penny

Well done on getting this far. I’m at the other end of this and finish chemo on valentines day…yay!

Just take each day as it comes and you’ll soon be through this and talking about it at the other end! The waiting for things to start is worse than the treatment.

There is a good thread “tips for chemo” and at the start of “starting my pink road”, juliebtaurus has a list of things to prep for chemo which is very useful.

Big hugs

Hi I am further down the road to recovery than you but just wanted to say hang in there it does become easier in a strange sort of way. I had wle plus re excision just over a year ago had chemo rads and half way through herceptin. It does pass quicker than you think once you start. Pm me if I can help with anything. Good luck x

Hi,

I have undergone the same but had chemo before MX. I am only 34 and managed well during the process. I had nausea for 4 days during FEC and nothing during Docetaxol. But had severe muscle pain during docet but took advice from my nurses and had Paracetemol and ibu tablets as a course. then i was perfectly handling things. Just keep going with ur usual routine and also take care abt the hair loss. I was covering my head all the time and so sometimes i even forgot that i was ill.

All the Best. Be Positive.

Hi Penny,

I had a bilateral mx this time last year, with sentinel node biopsy and expander implants. I also had multi-focal in my left breast. I hope you are dealing ok with the implants/post surgery. I know how difficult it is recovering from that op, even trying to get dressed can be a nightmare! You’ll get there in no time at all.

In regards to Chemo, just take each day at a time, there are loads of great threads on this site as to what other people have found useful during chemo. I personally found that I could only stomach ginger biscuits and grapes!

Good luck and take care
