17mm by 11mm fibroadenoma hidden by fibrocystic changes

Hi everyone,

I’ve been experiencing pain in my right breast for nearly a year and found a pea sized lump in the same breast about 2 months ago. I finally got an appointment at the breast clinic yesterday. I had an ultrasound and the pea sized lump wasn’t even visible on ultrasound however there was a mass (which looked huge on the ultrasound) close to my chest wall, I was absolutely terrified! Ultrasound guided fine needle aspiration showed this to be a fibroadenoma and free hand fine needle aspiration of the pea sized lump showed it to be fibrocystic changes.

I find it very scary that the fibroadenoma can not be felt as it is hidden by the fibrocystic changes which just shows if a cancer is close to the chest wall it can not be felt. I think I want to have the fibroadenoma removed just to be sure that it is a fibroadenoma as I’m a worrier and I’ve seen stories on here where fibroadenomas have masked cancer? Should I have a fibroadenoma removed? No test is 100% so I’d rather it was out. There is a 3 month waiting list. I don’t feel happy leaving it to see if it grows as I can’t even feel it! I feel worried about what is going on in that breast as there is both fibrocystic changes and a fibroadenoma in the same area, is that commom?

Thanks xxx
