I noticed a lump in my left breast 10 days ago just by accident really, I went to doctors whom confirmed the lump and said probably nohing to worry about but he will refer me to clinic for ultrasound scan.
I was surprised to get a call from the hospital at 9.00am the following morning confirming the appointment, I presumed it would just be sent out in the post!
The time is nearly here and my appiontment is tomorrow and I am so scared, I never thought I would feel this nervous. I think we all presume the worse outcome and it is very difficult to be positive.
I have read lots of fantastic posts on here and it does help knowing alot of other people are also going through it at the moment.
I am 34 years old and have a fantastic supportive husband who is coming with me tomorrow and we have 2 beautiful children 10 & 5.
Just wondering if anyone else out there recently been through this procedure…just not too sure what to expect.
Also whilst waiting for replies to your post maybe you would like to give our free helpline a call where the staff can offer practical information as well as emotional support. The free phone number is 0808 800 6000 and the lines are open Monday to Friday 9.00 to 5.00 and Saturday 10.00 to 2.00.
Hi Katie,
My doctor said I will be having the scan didn’t mention the mammogram, I presumed you had to be above a certain age for mammogram but reading the posts on this forum I think not.
I am really worried which is normal…the only thing I think about is the lump! Will they have an idea what it is just by the scan?
My husband is coming with me for support which is good…appointment at 11.00 so will let you know.
How long will I be at the hospital?
Sorry about all questions xx

Thanks everyone for your support and advice. As you can imagine I did not sleep much last night, feel physically sick this morning! I am trying to stay positive but the mind plays awful tricks on you…at least I will know a little more today and I can move on or at least know what I have to fight with.
I will of course post on here later with whatever news I have, hopefully good news. At least I have age on my side and hoping it’s just fatty tissue. The lump is in the upper outer quadrant…doesn’t really hurt but does ache but not sure if I am just imagining that! Xxx
Hi Katie, there not the nicest thing to have done but suppose they need to just to be sure. Painful now anaesthetic wearing off!!
He sounded quite positive saying he thought it was a benign lump but just needed to ensure this with the biopsies, surely he wouldn’t have said that if he wasn’t sure?
Really impressed with how quickly I get the results, it’s fab. Hopefully I can put it behind me on Thursday.
Xx
Hi Kerry
Like you it is my first time on this site. I noticed my nipple had inverted and had a slight discharge.i went to my GP .the next day I had a phone call from the hostpital.with an appointment this is quite normal as the guidelines are you be seen within two weeks.Which is a good thing.i went last week and a very nice DR took a slide of the discharge and then I had a mammogram and then an ultrasound scan non of it was painful.i go again tomorrow for results of the. Slide he explained what the next step would be depending on the result so I am keeping my fingers crossed.i try to do a day at a time.dont worry too much about your first visit its not that bad at all and more ofton than not a lump is just a cyst.just one thing prepare to be there about three hours as there is a wait between each department .Hopefully you will only need one visit Good Luck 333
