1st Chemo today

Hi Janman Thanks for the message. I went back to work this week - Mon/Tues - all day and Weds a.m. are my normal working hours. Monday and Tuesday I felt quite ‘spaced out’ and not fully in control, which was a bit scary. However I know feel okay again, just a little bit tireder than usual. I have been really thirsty too. How are you doing?

Hi Flishy That sounds like a good idea, omitting the anti-sickness drugs - the Dexamethesone plays havoc with your sleep, and if you’re tired you feel bad anyway. Will discuss this with the consultant next time. (I didn’t feel particularly sick (only a little nauseous), but don’t know whether that was down to the pills, or whether I wouldn’t have felt sick anyway.)
What I have found a pain though, is having to take Lactulose for constipation - have spoken with my breast care nurse yesterday and she has told me to ask the consultant for ‘Volatol’ next time.
Got stressed out in Morrison’s car park today - crying over a spilt yoghurt - long story and quite funny when I look back now!
Hope you are doing okay.

Hi Jude I have been eating loads too - they warn you of ‘loss of appetite’ and I was concerned as am like you, exactly the opposite! My body seems to be craving something though, and I haven’t yet worked out what - have tried chocolate, fruit, etc. but not found what I am seeking.
I keep wondering if I should have done the ‘wig thing’, but have bought headscarves and hats instead. I am dreading losing my hair - have said that I will hate catching sight of myself in the mirror, but staying alive is the most important thing, so hair loss is immaterial really.
Best wishes to you.

Hi Dee How are you doing? My other posts detail the ‘side effects’ I may have been getting. Are you having any similar ones?
Am pleased that you like your new wig - still not intending to go along that route myself. May change my mind once I start fighting with my headscarves though - was never one to wear anything on my head (ever!), so will be quite a challenge for me!
Take care

Hi all,

Well, touch wood, I have been pretty much OK since the first of my FEC (though am dreading Taxotere)! I havent felt sick at all, but I reckon the anti-sickness tablets I was given gave me the most side effects. Mine are called Ondansetron - don’t think they are steroids - I had to take them twice daily for two days. I was also given some other anti sickness tablets to take if I needed them (anti-histamine), but didn’t need them at all.

The Ondansetron made my eyes and mouth very dry and I was constipated for a couple of days, and felt a bit sleepy. I ate beetroot to cure the constipation!

Right now (10 days after 1st Fec) my head is feeling really itchy and I think I am losing more hair than I would normally. So it looks as if I shall be getting the wigs and hats out soon…and I am really DREADING that too! The thought of going out wearing them is daunting to say the least…but I guess I will just have to “front it out”!!!

Scaredsam, I can’t imagine how you are coping with a job and a young family! Take it easy girl!!

Heather … thanks for your post! Hope you are feeling better now, I will call you soon xx

Dee
