1st kemo statred

Hi everyone.I just found out a month ago that I have statge 2 to three.I have been to so many doctors. They are doing 4 rounds of kemo to shrink the tumor and then a Lumpectomy, and then more kemo. Then 7 weeks of radiation…I have three kids and one is disabled. My Husband just retired from the Navy of 20 years and he is disabled.I go 30 minutes away for my treatments. We are very low income so How I pay for my travel back and forth I dont know.We Make 20 dollars over the limit to get any help.So this is real hard on the whole family.I dont have support to lean on except for some family members and my husband. My Kids do not understand.Kemo makes me very tired and confused.I’m going to lose all my hair in a week.I would love to talk to any one…Take care and God Bless Roxy42

Hi Roxy, sorry about your diagnosis. Chemo is a bore, but it is effective. Where are you? You mention dollars, so I take it you are not in the UK. Have you found breastcancer.org yet? If not, have a look at them - they are really great and supportive, and have lots of good advice.

sweetie, have you tried the navy to help you as your hubby was a serving sailor, they have a benevalant fund which i,m sure they will help you out, i,m sry you are here going through this with your dear hubby being disabled it must be very hard for you.

try the legion aswell

love and blessings

Hi Roxy,

I’m sorry you’ve had to join us here but ‘welcome’! Do you live in the states? I only ask as you mention dollars. I was diagnosed in March, age 34. I have had a mastectomy and total axillary clearance and started chemo (E-CMF) in May. When this finishes I will be having rads, then hormones and Herceptin. Phew!!

I totally understand what you mean about chemo making you feel tired and confused. I have suffered with ‘chemo brain’ since I started! I get a very ‘foggy’ head and at those times I certainly wouldn’t be capable of making any important decisions, I can’t even decide what to do for tea sometimes! The tiredness can make you feel very down, as you want to get up and do things but your body won’t let you. I have found the ‘mental’ side of treatment quite difficult to deal with and have recently started having counselling.

I am sure the Navy would be able to help with travel costs, even though your hubby is now retired. I am currently serving in the RAF here in the UK and they have been fantastic. We have a benevolent fund to help those who are serving but also those who are no longer serving. We also have the British Legion. I am sure that whatever country you live in the Navy will have similar support services. I too have a 30 min journey each way to the hosp, and each time I have to pay for parking. The RAF pay for all of this.

I hope this helps, if only a little! I wish you well as you continue your journey. Take care and be sure to let us know how you are doing,

Kelly
