1st ME NOW MY GRANDMA

I just need a good cry this morning, i was diagnosed with grade 3 breast cancer last june, i have gone through the operation, chemo , radiotherapy and now on herceptin, i was starting to feel as i was getting my life back i have just gone back to work, when grandma was taken poorly and has been in hospital and they could not find out why she was in so much pain and then we were called into the office tuesday morning after 5 weeks in hospital and she has cancer which has spread , she is 90 and the hospital sent her home in an ambulance at 8.oopm friday evening with a big bag of tablets and handed them to my 91 year old grandad and went!!! needless to say he had a hell of a night as grandma was in so much pain and he didnt know what to do, i went down to their house its a 20 minute drive and was devestated and outraged that the hospital told us they had arranged pallative care and nobody had been, i gave her morphine and that didnt help so i rung the ward for advice they had lost her notes and i had to ring baycall to get a doctor, the saddest thing i had to change her as she was wet and it was only a couple of months ago i was out having dinner with her i just feel so down, thanks for listening, i just hate this b&&&&&& disease

I am so sorry to hear that your poor Grandma is in such pain. I feel for you all - including your dear Grandad who is probably terrified and confused and feeling helpless.

I hope that the health authority get things organised and she gets the care and support she needs.

Sending love and hugs to you all.

Hi galen
It sounds like you’re having a really tough time at the moment, first with your own diagnosis and treatment and now with your Gran. May I suggest you use the BCC helpline where you can share your troubles confidentially and the staff who are either breast care nurses or trained staff with experience of breast care issues may be able to give you some help and advice in where to go for extra support for your Gran.

The number to ring is freefone 0808 800 6000 the lines being open Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm and Saturdays 9am - 2pm. I hope this helps.

Kind regards

Hi Galen

What a horrible situation for you all. I do think that when old people have widespread cancer, the medics do not have a clue what to do next. They are stumped because medically, they are unable to treat her yet she still is in terrible pain. Your poor grandad at his age will be totally confused and very upset. My friend is going through a similar situation with her father who has prostate cancer. the hospital no longer know what to do with him and a little while ago he was in a terrible state. My friend contacted the local hospice, who took him in, got his pain well under control and looked after his wife. He was a different man - quality of life much better. She got the ball rolling through Macmillan. Perhaps you could try them?
