2 lumps but feel different

Morning, It’s my first time posting and I’ve just joined the forum.

I saw a nurse practitioner at my gp surgery on Tuesday and have been referred to the breast clinic. My appointment is this coming Friday.

I found a lump in my left breast, low down and sits horizontally. It feels oval in shape with a very definite end at the curved side, the other just kind of blends into the breast tissue. I think there could be a stringy type thing coming off the top towards the nipple but not sure if I’m just noticing things which aren’t there. It’s feels quite bumpy, maybe fibrous or a bit like a walnut, I’m not really sure which. When the nurse examined me she found another lump but this is more like a ball, smaller than the other and is smooth. The second feels softer than the first.

I’m 43, started HRT patches in December 2024 along with mirena coil due to very heavy periods, emotional rollercoaster and life just feeling overwhelming.

Currently I’m not massively worried, more feeling distanced from it and trying to stay curious rather than anxious. The wait of not knowing is hard, but more because I don’t like not knowing things generally - even nice surprises aren’t my thing!

My question is, has anyone else had 2 lumps & both feel different? Is it possible to have say a fibroadenoma and a cyst appear at the same time? I’ve never had any kind of breast problems, a ganglion in my wrist but that’s it as far as lumps and bumps go.

Thanks

Dear @2kittens welcome to the forum, we are all here for you with love and support. I thought I just send you a little bit of support until our nurses are back on line to answer your questions. I know they will point you in the right direction.

At the moment this is a waiting game, until your appointment on Friday, you sound quite positives which is a good sign. As I’m not medically trained to answer any questions, however would like to wish you good luck with health and happiness going forward.

Biggest hugs Tili :pray::rainbow::pray::rainbow:

The waiting is the worst bit but I know you will be in great hands. This is a lovely space to share anything and everything, I’ve found it kind, welcoming and informative.
We’ve all all been there

Thank you both. I fell down a proper hole of scrolling yesterday, mostly science based like NICE & specific charity websites. Spent some time on here too - it’s a lovely bunch of people!

The lump I found isn’t very hard but it is firm but kind of gristle like in texture. My breast just feels firmer, almost more muscular I guess, on the left side if it too, especially in comparison to my other one.

Note to self - boob doesn’t hurt but soon will if I keep prodding it like I am!

I’ve had cysts and a fibroadenoma in the same breast- not at the same time, but I don’t see why you couldn’t. Good luck at the appointment.

Hi 2kittens

Thank you for posting.

It is natural to have questions, and to feel curious after being referred to the breast clinic with 2 different breast lumps. As you and @nutmeg1 both say, the wait of not knowing is hard.

Breast changes can happen for many reasons. They may be due injury, due to hormonal changes as part of your monthly cycle (if you are still having periods) or due to benign conditions (not cancer). Although we can’t say what is causing your lumps, it is possible to have both a cyst and a fibroadenoma at the same time as @Alloway1 suggests.
