21 with lump

Hi, new here!

I am 21 and found a lump in my left breast just before Christmas. Went to the doctor’s today and I am being referred to a breast screening. My gran has had bc and my mum twice so I am fairly worried of the outcome. Doc said that I am young so could possibly be a cyst but due to family history wants it checked out. She said it could take up to 4 weeks which is worrying me.

I am in my 4th year at university training to become a primary teacher. I have assignments up to my neck, my dissertation and start my placement on Monday. My head is all over the place and I was wondering how everyone manages to cope with every day life/work. This year is so important but I am so distracted by this and keep fearing the worst.

Thank you

Hi Macm
It’s totally right you have been referred to get it properly checked out & thank goodness you have acted on this so promptly.
The wait is inevitably difficult as the mind does go into overdrive somewhat, so what you’re feeling is quite usual for most of us here, however, bc is the Least likely outcome & nothing is going to change between now & the appointment.
Easier said than done, but it can help with the wait to carry on as normal, keep yourself distracted from thinking about it & avoid that google! General googling only tends to feed the anxiety monster, does not reassure & changes nothing.
If you need info, then come back here or go onto the main bcc site here.
If you want to, do let us know how you get on, for the vast majority of women here, it turns out Not to be bc.
