Sharon,
Sorry to read that you are in hospital. I had a similar experience a few weeks ago - picked up a bacterial infection in the blood following final chemo - and was admitted with a temp of nearly 42. I panicked because in my case I felt cold and shivery and the staff did not seem to be rushing to start with antibiotics - it was about three hours in the end. I was in about 8 days and needed three different antibiotics in the end. But try not to worry, the staff do know what they are doing and see cases like it all the time. You need antibios via IV because larger doses need to be administered. In my case as after a day or so I felt quite well they let me home for a few hours in the day and just had to go back to the hospital in the evening.
It will pass - and try to take comfort that you are in the best place.
Bright x
hi sorry your unwell i just wanted to make a comment ie paracetomol iwas told bye my chemo unit to take them for any aches pains also i had to go back up after my first fec and they gave me them in ward wat are we meant to do or belive all diff areas seems to have there own rules god no hope u get better soon xx
Hi I was in hospital last week with neutropenic sepsis. IV antibiotics for 5 days. I went via A&E and the first thing they did was give me paracetamol and ibuprofen. Re the no paracetamol thing, could it be that we shouldn’t take it before taking our temperature, as they need an accurate reading - paracetamol would bring it down.
Hope you’re back on your feet soon.
i ended up with a massive throat infection (couldn’t even swallow) on Fec after 13 days…i had no high temp throughout the week it was only due to the hospital Doc doing a blood count (very very low white cells) they kept me in on iv antibiotics…on a general ward in a issolation room with nurses that assumed i had swine flu…doh!!! hair falling out been on chem not well…nhss and to be honest were as much use as a choc tea pot !!!
