2nd attempt for removing cancer

Hi
On the 19th December 2024 I went into hospital to have 3 cancerous lumps removed in my right breast plus lymph nodes in my armpit.
Things didn’t go as planned as I went into Anaphylactic shock as soon as I was given the general.
I was in ICU being kept alive for 4 days and came home on the 26th December.
After many many tests it was found that I’m allergic to Rocuronium (I’ve had this drug before) and I now have to wear a allergy bracelet.
This Thursday 20th February I’m going in for round 2. Even though I have had every test done under the sun I am so scared and worried.
I have therapy to discuss my fears on Wednesday but this still won’t take away my fears.
I thought talking about this in this community might help xx

Hello and I completely understand how you are feeling. had had an Anaphylactic reaction in October 2022 when I was due to have lumpectomy. I woke up in intensive care and it was very frightening. I was allergic to teicoplanin and gentamincin both antibiotics. I was tested and luckily they were able to confirm my allergic with tested before my next operation which went ahead two weeks after. There were extra people when I had this surgery. I have also subsequently had a mascetomy which was fine.

Hopefully this will give you some reassurance . I was so scared but you will be fine. Be kind to yourself and recognise that this is doable and please let us know how you get one. Feel free to message me if you want to chat further

Dear Sarah441,

Understandably a very worrying time for you I feel sure your team will be checking double checking on you through out your treatment, however please make them aware of how you are feeling. (They probably know).

Wishing you well, with happiness to follow
Please let us know how you’re getting on.

Much love Tili :pray::rainbow::pray::rainbow:

Hi, I’m sorry you had to go through that on top of everything else and axiety that delayed treatment also causes.
I see it now and then from the other side looking after ICU patients. Thankfully a rare occurance. Rest assured that all people I have seen who have had an intra-op anaphylaxis, have physically recovered. Its the best place to be if its going to happen as everyone can immediately deal with it and sort it out. There are other meds that do the same job as Roc, but act in different ways, so won’t cause the same reaction, so it shouldn’t happen again now everyone is aware of it. The mental trauma of the experience remains though, so ask for counselling if its not been offered. I hope the rest of your pathway runs smoothly.

Thankyou. Its good to hear feom someone who is on the other side :slightly_smiling_face:.
Yes you are right, its more the mental side of things i cant cope with. The logical me knows I’ll be in safe hands and that everyone will keep an extra eye on me but the un-logical side is a different matter.
Im hoping the counselling will help tomorrow  xx

Hi Sarah

My memory is terrible when I am on chemo. Not sure if it is just chemo and think mine was menopause as well and I had to come straight off HRT (even thought my cancer is Triple negative which is not hormome related). I also think bit of age related as well these days as my friends are all the same and we all forget places or peoples names or the name of objects so hopefully it will be a temporary thong for you. I think Iin a way it’s also the body sort of protecting you as well as I rarely think about what happened. Totally get the logical brain versus illogical and it’s completely understandable. Hopefully your concealing tomorrow will help to give you further reassurance. Will be thinking of you on op day xx

Hi all
Operation all went according to plan and i came round with no hiccups this time.
Im trying to manage the pain now and attempting to do my exercises 3 times a day.
I’m just so relieved that part is over. The bruising is amazing and the cuts are longer than I thought they’d be.
I’ve got a weepy area but nothing horrendous. Still waiting for the BC nurse to call to check up on me.
Thank you for all the support xx
