3 month zoladex

Hi,

Does anyone have experience of moving from taking tamoxifen with once a month zoladex injections over to having tamoxifen with once every three months zoladex injections? I’m just wondering if the side-effects are increased / different etc… F~

Hi

I was told not to have 3 monthly Zoladex injections as they did not work effectively to stopping the oestrogen and it needed to be monthly injections.

Hope that helps

hi

my cons. and gp refused to use 3 month injections as it was not licensed for use for breast cancer only prostrate cancer . I finshed 2 yrs of zoladex in Feb.

I think it would be good if we could have input on this from the BCC nurse. I too have heard what Sharon42 has posted above.

Hi I also take tamoxifen and zoladex. My GP gives me the zoladex injection every 28 days. My understanding is the same as Sharon42 in that getting an injection every 3 months - this was not licensed for breast cancer use and only for prostate cancer.

Hi all,

I am in the same position and completely agree with Booby trap. I must confess to feeling awful on zolodex, forgetful, depressed, hot flushes and very lethargic and ravenous all the time (gained 4 kilos in 6 weeks!!!) I have only had been on zolodex for 5 weeks ie 2 injections so please someone tell me that side effects calm down!!! I think its worst the younger you are. However I feel I am lucky to have a drug that helps keeps the cancer creatures away!!!

HI ALL,

THANKS FOR YOUR COMMENTS, MUCH APPRECIATED. I ALSO SENT THIS QUESTION TO THE EMAIL NURSE AND GOT THE FOLLOWING RESPONSE.

Thank you for your email asking for information about taking Zoladex injections every 3 months instead of monthly for your breast cancer.

At breast cancer care, we don’t have any specific information on the different schedules that Zoladex can be given. Our information on Zoladex is a factsheet about the treatment and its side-effects, which you can obtain a copy of via the direct link below, or by contacting our helpline for a copy:

www.breastcancercare.org.uk/docs/zoladex__jan_08_0.pdf

However, you may be interested to know that in the UK , when Zoladex is used to treat breast cancer, it is presently only licensed for use, using the monthly injections and not 3 monthly. Although, we know from talking to our clients and oncologists who care for women with breast cancer, that the 3 monthly injections of zoladex are prescribed on an individual basis. Therefore you may want to discuss this further with your specialist.

SO, SOME CLARIFICATION. I’M IN A POSITION TO LOOK INTO THIS FURTHER, AND WILL POST ANY FURTHER RESEARCH / PROFESSIONAL DISCUSSION I CAN FIND THAT HAS VALIDITY.

I’M INTERESTED IN THE POSSIBILITY, EVEN IF TAKEN ONLY OCCASSIONALLY, AS I SOMETIMES HAVE TO BE AWAY FROM HOME WHEN I’D BE HAVING THE JAB.

All the very best to all us toxy-zollies! Regards F~

When I asked my onc. about this he was adamant that 3 mthly zoladex is a no-go. All tests have shown that the “drug” level dips too far at the end and therefore doesn’t give necessary coverage. My onc, is the top BC man at the Royal Marsden.

Please do not be persuaded to go for the three month zoladex injection. My GP put me onto the once every three momth jab because he thought it would be more convenient. As I got to the end of the three months, I noticed I was having a mini period. When I mentioned this to my oncologist he said he thought there may be a problem in that the three monthly shot wasn’t properly suppressing ovarian function. I now have secondaries and cannot get it out of my mind that these may have been prevented had I been properly covered by having the zoladex shots on a monthly instead of three monthly basis.
