33 years HER2 pos

How was your recovery? I was told that I might not be able to drive for 2 weeks and that is more worrisome to me than the actual procedure. Lol

Thank you  They found a bunch of radial scars and Iā€™ve never been injured in my chest. Apparently radial scars are rare and that is where my cancer is finding in the bunched up tissue. Sclerosis of the breast but just in the right. Iā€™m so so lucky that it was caught early.

Hi @jeml and everyone else

This seems like a lovely thread but please do come on over and meet the gang on our ā€˜HER2+ and need some buddiesā€™ thread if you fancy it. Loads of good stuff from women whoā€™ve been there and walked the walk. Also lots of us are going through treatment at present. I myself am due a mastectomy tomorrow having finished chemo last month. Looking forward to a few days off. In fact this evening I hid a box of chocolates and some tiffin in my sock drawer ready for being stuck in bed for the next few days with a drain in my side!
I also have a pile of books at the ready.

You have to look on the bright side and it seems like you do.

Love to you all,

Salbert

From what I remember it was about 2 weeks before I was driving again but that was mainly due to the auxiliary node clearance and arm being a bit stiff. If I hadnā€™t had it I would have been driving sooner I think?

Little tip when you are coming home from the hospital have a cushion or pillow to hold against yourself as I did find the car ride home jostled things a bit. Having something to slide under the seatbelt (depending on what side your surgery is) might also be handy.

Make sure you have a variety of different strength painkillers just in case. I was sent home with a prescription for a couple of different ones but wasnā€™t taking any pain meds after the first 2/3 days.

Iā€™m a front sleeper so this was the most annoying part for me!!

Aw thatā€™s great that you can have less chemo. How have you been finding it? I really hope your results from surgery are good :crossed_fingers:. I had 18 Phesgo I think and they went on for a year after my chemo ended. They actually went in really quick but was very glad to be finished at the same time- had to get mine in the chemo ward so I hated going back there!!

I donā€™t have children but didnā€™t go for the fertility stuff either past the initial appointment it was just going to take too long and to be honest I just couldnā€™t handle anything else at that point!

Wishing you all the best for your surgery!! You are just right- chocolate and books what else could be better!!

Thank you for the advice! Iā€™m a tummy and side sleeper. I found the biopsy annoying that I had to sleep on my back so I think this will be the same. Iā€™ll def take my pain killers cause I have like zero pain tolerance unfortunately. :sob: Iā€™m just worried about all the things I wonā€™t be able to do and it just annoys me as a mom. I appreciate all your help

Iā€™m a total wimp too when it comes to pain and honestly it was a lot less painful than I expected  Totally understand- whole different ball game when you have kids. Hopefully you have good people in your corner who can help!

Iā€™ve found it ok thanks. Have tolerated it not too badā€¦. Havenā€™t been without side effects but managed to keep up a routine/exercise throughout (just not to the same level as usual). Will be glad to have it finished after tomorrow though as it feels like a big milestone! Docetaxel has been hard for mouth ulcers so not looking forward to that again :see_no_evil: yeah they said to me either 6 months or a year of Phesgo so will just need to see!

Thank you @salbert i have had a little read on your thread and would love to join!
Can i please ask you something too if you dont mind?
Did you have any positive nodes also? Im having one of those days today where paranoid thoughts come in even though my scans were clear etc and they said its contained in a 5cm area in my breast. I think its because im waiting for my next chemo session so my mind is wondering!
I would like a mascectomy too not a lumpectomy, was you offered this?
Hope all goes well today for you! Plenty of rest and chocolates  x

Yes i heard a lot of people say the same thing that its hit them after treatment as finished.
Up to now im just taking each day as it comes. I go for my next chemo session next wednesdayā€¦ its come around quick! But im glad time is going fast.
Sounds like its same as me with the treatment. Not sure if i will need more chemo after operation though x

Hi @jeml

I did have lymph node involvement. Two were positive for HER2+ cancer. I know what itā€™s like for the mind to wander to dark and scary places, we all do; so I like to remind myself of the very high statistics when it comes to curative treatment for us. The statistics are excellent. One of the women on the HER2+ thread said that our type of cancer may be fast moving but it falls fast in treatment too. Great to know.

Unfortunately, the consultant I was with did 4 unsuccessful lumpectomies so I switched to the fabulous Katherine Krupa at Royal Marsden Sutton and she put me straight onto neo-adjuvant chemo and Phesgo, followed by yesterdayā€™s mastectomy a month after chemo finished. I am already walking around with my drain in my side and here I am typing on my laptop with just paracetamol for pain relief. I like to think the chocolates are helping considerably too!

Thanks @fhs92 for your good wishes. I love the camaraderie on this wonderful site.

Love to you all,

Salbert

Thats really bad that its been 4 lumpectomy attempts! Surely they should have done the chemo first.
Glad you finally got sorted! I already made my mind up about it all and i dont want a lumpectomyā€¦ i dont care about having boobs anymore, i will ask for a skin flap so if in future i decide for reconscruction.
Thanks for the positvity! As you are aware its so much needed in times like these for us.
Im having my second chemo next weekā€¦ 6 rounds in total! I already feel a difference after the first roundā€¦ the swelling as gone in my breast, so i am feeling very positive.
The chocolates sound very nice! Hope you get plenty of rest. I must have binged all netflix these past few weeks  x

Heyy Jemma,
I was diagnosed in Jan this year, at 33 (turned 34 in May). I was HER2 negative. Hope youā€™re doing okay with your treatment. Ive tried throughout everything to have a positive mindset and to block out any negativity. Ive even quit my job of 12 years and now figuring out what to do next, as life is too short haha.

True life is! Do what ever makes you happy.
I hope your treatment is going well, or have you finished now?
Im off tomorrow at 9am for my second chemo session. Xx

Ĥi Jeml i was diagnosed with the same cancer but was in all my lump nodes last year February. I have done all treatments chemotherapy ,surgery, radiotherapy its hard road try to be postive and take it at your pace. I am now on letrozole which has caused weight gain and joint pain but its a lot easier the chemotherapy. Hope all goes well for you.

Hello and thanks for the reply, did you have a lump also?
So i take it they took your nodes away then during the operation.
I know its grueling process but its all worth it to get better again.
How are you now xx

Was yours the hormone one? Mine is her2 positive so i have to have herceptin injections. Usually letrozole is given for hormone type. Xx

Hi yes i had a lump and also in the breast which they detected after a mamagathy spread to lump nodes and removed all in nodes right arm still numb where they remove nodes last year September in all im really well. How are you?

I not too bad thank you! Literally just woken up i think i caught up on my sleep last night. Still feel tired though i heard chemo does that to you.
Glad you are doing well! I will look back at this in years to come and be like damnn that was 3 years agoā€¦ x
