Hello Everyone! I had a lumpectomy and Axilla node clearance a few days ago. The worst bit is my underarm and the drain. I can’t wait for that to come out. I’ve been told I need to wait another 3 weeks for the results which seems sooo long! Prior to my op they had already done a lymph biopsie which came back positive hence why I had the node clearance. They also gave me a full ct scan and nuclear medicine bone scan, both came back clear. I suppose now I’m just wanting to know how many of my lymph nodes were affected. I have hormonal breast cancer and I’m negative for HER 2 so that’s a positive. I know I’m going to need radiotherapy and hormone treatment. Hoping I don’t have to have chemo x

@hc1973 sorry to hear you’re uncomfortable, I definitely found under the arm was worse than where I had my lumpectomy and it was only 2 nodes taken out! It will get better with time. The waiting for results is the worst but try to look on it as time to recover and be the best you can ready for the next treatment. Doing arm exercises when you can, eating well, drink lots of water and get out for a little bit every day helped me. Good luck.
Hi @hc1973. I didnt have an axillary clearance, just the lumpectomy and 2 sentinel nodes. The underarm cut is a bit more uncomfortable though as it gets more friction. However after 2 weeks i feel much better. 3 weeks isnt too bad for results. I have 2 weeks still to wait after 4 already! Keep resting but do keep busy. I’ve been watching tv, reading and going for bwalks. Fingers crossed for good results. X
I found the under arm bit the worst. Best thing I found was a cool pack from Amazon which I would sit with under my armpit. The nerve pain lasted like this for about a month, much worse in the evening, buy now at 2 months it’s mostly gone xx
Hi
Sorry to hear you are going through this.
It is a very difficult time but know that it will pass and you will feel much better.
As soon as you are able the gentle recommended exercises helped me to keep focussed on getting better and seeing improvements each day.
Take it easy and take care of you.
