Hi,
So I was diagnosed with dcis, after radiotherapy I had no symptoms at all, which was really good. But come the end of December my breast became quite sore and lumpy. I’ve seen the oncologist who says it’s to do with radiation. When I spoke to the oncologist about fatigue he said it could be because I’m pre diabetic or menopause.
I’m overweight and have put more on since my surgery. I really want to lose the weight so I can be healthier and stronger so I was thinking of going on a low calorie diet? I’ve done the 1:1 diet before and wonder if I should do it again? Do you think I’ll be ok doing this? Just wondering what to do.
When I go for a walk the next day I can be wiped out which is so frustrating. I really need to get healthy and fit!
Some advice would be really appreciated!
Hi @molly-me
Welcome to the forum.
Have you considered speaking to our team of breast care nurses? You can reach them on freephone 0808 800 6000 (Mon-Fri 9am-4pm; Sat 9am-1pm). They can talk through anything that’s on your mind, and give tips on dieting which I can see is of interest to you.
If you prefer you can even leave them a message without leaving the forum, by posting in the Ask our Nurses board.
Sending our warmest wishes
Bernard
Hi @molly-me
I was also very fatigued post surgery and 2 months post radiotherapy, in fact my doctor/consultant from the radiotherapy department told me that the fatigue peaks at 2 months post radiotherapy and gradually gets better.
I wouldn’t go on a low calorie diet if it was me. Aim for giving your body loads of nutrients -fresh fruit and veg etc all the usual advice!
I found the Speaker Live session by Carolyn Garritt also very helpful about how to increase exercise safely after treatment. I bought her book on kindle and would recommend Get Your Oomph Back: A guide to exercise after a cancer diagnosis: Amazon.co.uk: Garritt, Carolyn: 9781781612118: Books strength training has really helped me to get stronger. I found the fatigue so frustrating but it does get better. Radiotherapy does really take it out the body and mind.
