49, diagnosed Friday 1 July - am I young or am I old?

Sorry Lisamary! I would be in trouble at work using acronyms! Lumpectomy is the other description X

Ah thanks for the explanation! And thanks also for the emotional content warning - really appreciated. Also thanks as well about the advice about a port rather than PICC especially if it may help more for maintaining some exercise (I’m envisioning that my desire to keep going may be defeated by events but even so).

anyway, I managed parkrun today (hoping to go back in 3 weeks if at all possible). Utterly RUBBISH time of 41:21 but I did manage a sprint finish (goodness knows what the time would have been without that!)

Thanks everyone. At the moment trying to not be hacked off about the communication issues in all this: spoke to my BCN (breast cancer nurse) Friday by phone who confirmed that yes I can get my pre chemo visit bloods taken on the day. I’ve been slotted in for a last minute place for chemo on Tuesday at 3pm but there are no pre-chemo sessions so I’ll just be going into a group at 2pm before going In for the chemo itself. Now I’ve had a letter come in post - I’ve already had TWO letters come after my appointments GRR - and it says I have a US guided marker insertion breast rt at 11:40am on Tuesday! What the…!!!

so now am totally confused so will need to wait til Monday to call to clarify and will need to speak to someone general as my BCN only works Tuesday to Friday. SIGH…

any clarification ion you ladies can offer? Mostly though just ranting about this chaos of communication.

i am grateful though to start treatment sooner than later. I think…

Well I phoned up. Was told the appointment in the letter was cancelled and rescheduled for August and I STILL don’t know what it is for properly! Argh!

then got phoned about 6pm (on my landline, when I’ve REPEATEDLY told everyone to call my mobile) and asked “could you come in much earlier for your bloods to be taken tomorrow before your first chemo?”

Yes. Yes I can.

Long discussion about how normally they get a coupleof days to process the bloods and get a doc to sign off to start the chemo well in advance of the chemo starting. How they’re rushing things. How they want yo minimise me ganging about in the day. Well… I get that but it kinda wasn’t my choice to do things this way round ya know?!

sigh.

resisting urge to scream. Got a lift to get me there early and then will head to town til my bloke can join me from work.

Well I had bloods taken early on Tuesday then went back for the chemo. It was fine and they were very good with the needles I thought. However, Tuesday night I was SUPER SICK. All night. Pretty much continuous for about 9 hours. Tried to take meds and. Couldn’t keep food down to take steroids. Back to hospital for anti emetics and hydration. And was very relieved to be able to eat and the SLEEP… Today have managed a bit of breakfast and waiting to have some lunch and then more meds. Hoping for a couple of good days. I have an invite to an exhibition opening tomorrow I would really like to get to so that’s my aim for the next day - if I can make it to that I will be very happy indeed.

Fingers crossed we’d for me eh ladies?!

Yeah need to be attentive to my bowels :smileylol:

That sounds lovely Cath (not the insomnia and night sweats), have a great holiday. Grumble away when you get wifi xx

Have a great holiday Cath! Xx

Hair shaving today (though most of it is coming out every time I move let alone try to comb it) so think I will be glad for it to go. Having a party to see it off.

have raised over £830 from this in addition to my race for life fundraising £470 around the time of my diagnosis.

some good has to come from this vile and nasty thing; stuff you cancer.

love to all

It is so frustrating when you build yourself up only to be knocked back. It may not seem much to wait another week but when it is you being told to wait it seems like just another kick in the teeth.
Good luck for next week. I hope they are back to normal then.

Finally had chemo 3 yesterday. Hurrah. Headache from hell overnight (but no temperature or sickness hurrah) but did end up being awake most of the night so rough day for the man and a lie in for me to ru and catch up some zzzzzzz

final FEC next time and then on to the T… Bleugh… :smileyfrustrated:

UPDATE!!!

Oncologist measured lump today. From peak of 8cm, we’re down to 4cm with 3 chemo to go and surgery etc…

even Liz O’Riordan thought that gave me a good prognosis! (Breast cancer surgeon who now has breast cancer and who tweets about her experiences)
