I have been having pain in my left breast. I recently noticed a lump area so informed midwife who told me to see G.P. I was examined and gp has said I have slight thickening in one area an she can feel a lump which feels like a cyst. She has referred me to breast clinic to put mind at ease. Appointment has been made for two weeks and she kept telling me not to worry I suffer with extreme anxiety. With me being pregnant I am trying to not worry but have not been sleeping or eating and just can’t contain my worrying. I am so anxious as I don’t know what to expect
Hi Lauren,
It is absolutely right you have been referred to get this properly looked at, inevitably, anxiety is quite normal when going through this, we’ve all been through it.
It would be very rare for someone of your age to be bc, for any breast change there can be a benign reason for it & for the vast majority of women bc is the Least likely outcome.
At the clinic, they will examine you & most likely do an ultrasound. If they can see what it is, you’ll get the answer then. It’s possible a mammogram maybe done & if it’s still not clear what it is, a biopsy from the lump will be taken. If a biopsy is needed, there is a wait of a week or 2 for the results, but it does not necessarily mean it’s bc if this is done.
Although it’s easier said than done, it can help with the wait to carry on as normal, to keep yourself distracted & avoid general googling as this only makes anxiety a lot worse, often for no good reason.
Do use the main bcc site here if you need any info & let us know how you get on if you want to.

Thankyou for your response Ann, hopefully it will just be something benign and yes I will try to remain of Google as that has just made me much worse. This site has helped a lot and as has your response.
Thankyou Lauren xxx
