96 year old mother in law with inflammatory breast cancer

Hi,

I’m posting in this in the hope that someone out there might be able to offer some advice or suggestions for my mother in law who has inflammatory breast cancer.  She has an open wound underneath the affected breast and hasn’t been able to tolerate the adhesive dressings that the specialist nurses and district nurses keep trying.  She find these too uncomfortable.  However, she’s now got an infection because the area underneath the breast isn’t being kept dry.

Has anyone else been in this situation with an elderly parent who’s really struggling to manage with dressings?  What advice would you give as district nurses don’t seem to be able to manage it effectively.

Thanks

Michelle

Hi , I’m sorry your mother in law is having such a difficult time .

I had breakdown in the skin under my breast following radiotherapy - I wouldn’t have been able to tolerate adhesive dressings either — I had ones that you placed in your bra instead .There are many types of specialist dressing some of which can only be prescribed by a specialist , have you flagged this up with your Mum in laws consultant ?  You could ask this question in the Ask the Nurses Section .Hope she gets some relief soon .x
