A bit concerned

Hi everyone I have only just come across this site and signed up- been reading some posts and you are all so helpful.

I found a lump yesterday when I was about to have a shower- not sure how long it has been there but not long I don’t think.

It feels like a round hard bump about the diameter of a pea, but as if it is hidden within the tissue of my breast, so I can’t feel the edges of it just the top. (if that makes sense)

I am getting quite worried about it and can’t stop thinking about it at the moment.

The only problem is I am a student physio living away from home studying and I’m not registered with a GP here. Also I am on placement which makes it difficult to find time to ring a doctors and find out about getting temporary residence.

I don’t know whether to wait until I go home on the 19th December and get an appointment with my doctor or try and see one here?

I have a half day on placement on Friday so I could go into a doctors than and see. Or there is a drop in centre at a local hospital but I’m not sure if this is the kind of thing they deal with.

Does anyone know how long it takes to get temporary residency in a doctors?

Also- does this lump sound like something to be concerned about?

Any helped would be really appreciated.

Thanks guys if you have got this far! xxxx

I can only advise that you get lump seen to asap, or it weill drive you mad! I dont think drop in centres will do it but get registered with a gp as soon as poss. None of us can tell you what the lump is and it would be wrong of us to try, but please let us know how it goes.

Take care

Thank you so much for the reply.

I know- I definitely will get it checked out. It just makes it so difficult with being away from home and being on placement- I don’t really want to have to take time out if I can help it as it is my last week of placement next week. I haven’t told anyone yet- here, at home or my boyfriend as I don’t want to worry them unecessarily.

I think I will pop in to the doctors surgery near me on the way home on Friday afternoon and see what they say.

I just wish I were at home. :frowning:

You can go to any doctor. They just ask you to fill in a form when you get there, giving home address, current doctor, etc. I don’t know what would happen about follow-up treatment, but they would definitely see you for a consultation.

Obviously, the lump needs checking out, but it could be a cyst or something else benign, so don’t jump to conclusions.

Good luck and let us know how you get on.

I’m not too worried just a bit concerned- your mind always runs away with you when things like this happen!

Thanks for that info it is really helpful- I will definitely pop into the doctors on Friday afternoon.

Hi Milly, I am not going to nag, ( just think of me as an interfering old Aunt!) but I really would like you to make that appointment at the doctor. I do not think you will have any problem but if you tell them that you need an urgent appointment as you have found a lump, they will hopefully give you an appointment quickly because you don’t want to wait weeks and weeks, do you? When my daughter was over from Europe where she now lives, she managed to get an appointment quickly and she was no longer registered with the GP here. But if you make out to them that you are in no hurry, they will think you are not worried…and I think you are a wee bit …Hopefully it will be nothing serious but I do think you need to get it checked out ASAP. Let us know how you get on. Put your studies on hold and make the time to see the GP. We are here to listen to you, love Val

I forgot to say, if you mention ‘lump’, they should give you an emergency appointment, hopefully for the same day.

Good luck!
