A bit worried

I have posted this for new user Tylah
Jo, Facilitator

Hey. I’m a little worried about one of my breasts. Should I definatley go to the doctors? Or am I being Paranoid? I am 18 years old, and my family has a history of cancer. I have been noticing some strange things about one of my breasts latley. It is smaller than the other, the nipple is lighter in colour than the other one (which is darker). Also, I have a reacurring Eczema like rash that has formed a tough skin on one breast. I cant feel much on the surface of that breast and i can feel nothing but a dull pain in that nipple-and only if i touch it directly. There are pimple like dimples that form occasionally on the aerole and on the breast itself. I check occasionally for any lumps and haven’t noticed anything.
Does breast cancer (or other associated diseases) occur In people my age?? Is there anything there that sounds worrying?

Could anyone give me any advice. I hope to assauge my fears.
Thankyou very much to anyone who can help me

Tylah.

Hi Tylah,

I don’t know what the youngest age for breast cancer is - I have seen women in their mid 20s posting on here.

At your age it is very unlikely that you have cancer, but it is obviously worrying you, so I would go to see your GP and hopefully you will get a completely different diagnosis and you can then stop worrying.

Hi Tylah

I have posted a link to our publication ‘Breast Awareness’ which you may find helpful to read, you can also call our helpline on 0808 800 6000 for more support from our helpliners if you feel this would help:

Hi Tylah - I agree with roadrunner - it is unlikely to be breast cancer but hopefully going to have a chat with your gp should put your mind at ease and she might be able to help with the skin problems. It is good that you are getting to know your breasts and know what is normal for you as that means if there are ever any bumps / changes in the future you will spot them straight away…
