Is it possible to view the 3 voices video? I clicked on the pic in this thread but nothing happened…is it elsewhere on the site? Thanks.
I too think of myself as an intellegent woman, I have to agree with Sandra and the last few contributers. I could see that James was trying to be light hearted.
Still James has apologised for any offence he has caused and I feel it was genuine.
I quite like the look of the blog ( I don’t buy newspapers). It looks to have the potential of dip in and dip out of what news you want to follow.
I too didn’t seem to be able to access the video clips ( Perhaps I am not a techy.
I guess the beauty of this site is each to his own.
Carol
Well i think he was being light-hearted too and did’nt find his post offensive at all.

Hello all,
I’m responding regarding the video as I was the one who put them up on the site. I’m sorry that so many of you have had trouble accessing them.
There is no one video everything was cut up into small clips and placed throughout the website. So sorry, but it is all little snippets of their story.
I’ve posted a few links to the three Breast Cancer Voices clips to help you find them. However they’re are more that you’re likely to come across as you’re touring the site.
Wendy is featured heavily on pages for younger women, lavender trust and volunteering. While Carolyn is almost completely in secondary breast cancer pages. And Kate’s clips have been spread across breast cancer and employment, treatment, diagnosis and living with breast cancer.

I hope that helps.
Best wishes,
Elissa.
I have accessed the video clips and wish they were a little longer.I was especially touched by kate when she spoke of her realisation that the doctors could never return you to what you were.I didnt mind the jokiness in the original post it was I think an Attempt to relate on a different level from the usual admin detachment.
Impact not intention is what matters…

Thanks Elissa.
I’ve had a quick look at the newsblog and I welcome the idea. For two reasons:-
- I don’t actually get time to read a newspaper let alone newspapers.
- If I have read a story I usually have more questions and hopefully the newsblog could point me to further sources of information.
As a general point I find the information from BCC good but leaves a lot of questions unanswered, but then some the scientific/medical information is in too much depth using terms and jargon I don’t understand. I like to think I’m of reasonable intelligence but still need educating on science topics. So there is a ‘market’ for information somewhere in between the scientific papers and the BCC current leaflets.
There is an american website for BC which gives the scientists press release and alongside side it their own narrative suming up the conclusions e.g. very interesting study but conducted on mice so more research needs to be done. This is very helpful but often covers american research findings.
For goodness sake why don’t some of you lighten up!!
I(and I know of a few other people)am fed up with the attitude of certain posters on here.Sometimes I feel too scared to post for the fear of getting shouted down for my opinions. We come on here because we are all in the same position with our health-not to be bullied by a certain few who think they are above everyone else!
Thank you James for setting this up for us.I am very grateful for all the hard work you and your team have put in for us.I’m glad for these bits of news,as I don’t go out and buy 15 newspapers a day either!
I also know that you were trying to be light hearted and fun with your comments and there is nothing wrong with that!

I have just read this thread and have to say that I think there have been some very harsh (and blatantly rude) comments all in all. It would seem that there are two separate issues that are responsible for the hostility - one is whether the charity’s money has been ill-spent on the web design and the other is James’s approach.
I can’t comment on the money issue as I don’t know any of the facts, but as for James’s approach, I didn’t find it in the least offensive or patronising. I too am a well read person and am capable of reading newspapers and teasing out what is important and what is not and critiquing medical research papers is a routine part of my job so if I want information, I have no problem in accessing it. However, thre is always room for more information and providing James and his team are careful in their interpretation of the newspaper articles, it will be a very valuable resource to all.
James was clearly trying to come across as friendly and informal, rather than authoritative and detatched and for some of you, this approach irritated you, but it did not justify the comments that followed. James may not have breast cancer but I am sure he has feelings which no doubt are a bit bruised at the moment.
I absolutely agree!some things justify a rant and others don’t.In my opinion this doesnt.Thank you BCC for the extra service.
Love Valx
Blimey- whats all the fuss about! unbelievable.
I think the Newsblog is quite a good idea.
As an expat (by choice, I admit), I don’t have ready access to up-to-date and full printed editions of Britsh newspapers, which are of course expensive to buy abroad on a daily basis. So the blog may well prove a hit among the members of the forum who are not UK residents.
I have to say I found James’ post surprisingly informal, but didn’t (and still don’t) feel sufficiently moved to comment on it on way or the other.
Just call me Mrs Middle-of-the-road…

Well said Allicat,
I also get fed up with some of the attitudes on here.
In the 2 years ive been comeing on these forums its got to the point where i can predict exactly which posts will be jumped on, and im begining to think that it is done delibrately just to cause upset, and to get a reaction .It seems there is a group of posters on this forum who seem to “enjoy” shooting people down.
I respect and feel for anyone with BC but that is no excuse for rudeness, disrespect or sarcasam, refering to someone as "Geeks or Nerds* is rude, as is being sarcastic, even more so when its done to the very team who provide this free service for us all, im “irratated,” irratated that i cannot post of anything POSITIVE , of anything PINK, or of anything to do with PINK OCTOBER without being jumped upon.
This website and these Forums are for Everyone , so please BCC stop apoligising youve done nothing wrong ,so theres realy no need, if some dont appreiciate or like what this website has to offer then why use it.
As someone who reads but no longer posts-after having been rudely slapped down for expressing an opinion by the resident self proclaimed experts, I feel sufficiently incensed to add my support to Ali and lindiloo, and the others who are expressing their amazement. Moaning and nit picking for the sake of it seems to be the norm , and is undermining the benefits which can be derived from the site. I’m glad to see people standing up and being counted-this bullying behaviour is childish and appalling-whatever happened to common courtesy and respecting opinions contrary to one’s own?
I’ll certainly browse this new facility. I have no desire whatsoever to spend hours every day searching for information on cancer. I may be terminally ill, but I have better things to do with my time at the moment, than read copiously about treatments and dying. So thank you James and team-having everything summarised and easily accessible seems like an excellent idea-and I imagine that most of us, who don’t want to waste our precious time focusing exclusively on researching our illnesses, will feel the same.
My thanks to those who have recently expressed their appreciation of the Newsblog facility, and I apologise to those about whom I have made wrong assumptions.
I have to say that I personally did not find anything wrong with the initial post that James made. But I did find some of the replies very harsh and also unpleasantly rude.
I think that BreastCancerCare provides some wonderful services. They are never going to be able to please 100% of the website users. But I for one am extremely grateful for all the help and information they provide.
As has been pointed out so many times before, these forums are for everyone and we will all have different opinions and view. Some of you have a much ‘louder voice’ than others and your replies can seem quite intimidating sometimes. There should be absolutely no need to belittle someone just because you don’t agree with their opinion.
Am coming to this thread late - which is proof indeed that I too will find the new newsblog a useful service. As others have already said, I do not have the time during the week to read newspapers or browse the web, though I do try and catch up a bit at the weekend as I am very interested in what is happening in the bc world and want to keep up to date. I do consider myself more than capable of reading/tracking down such information but that does not mean it shouldn’t be made easier for me (and for others) by collecting it in one easily accessible place. I also think that (as Bertie (or James?)) has said, there are many users of the site who are not forum users (something I was suddenly much more aware of after a Living with Secondary BC day recently)and those (as Bahons2 points out) are expats - we should be wary of assuming that our own needs/desires/wants are those of all. So thank you very much BCC - don’t know how much the newsblog has cost but it looks a useful service to have.
The tone of James’ post perhaps did not quite fit the situation/context but it certainly did not “offend” me. I do feel that perhaps some of the reaction comes from the fact that the “gormless” thread was moderated in the way it was (a moderation I personally did indeed feel was unnecessary). However, if that is the case, I think now is the time to move on.
Kay
Hi,
I too find the Newsblog very useful. I am happy to research a lot of things myself but one of the reasons why forums are so great is that others can often provide you with information via their anecdotes quicker than you can research things yoursef.
Sometimes though , as well as anecdotes, you need news and information and it is a lot easier having cancer and cancer-related news stories all in on place so I am pleased with this additional service.
There’s been a lot of harsh words on this thread which I am very surprised at. Personally, I found absolutely nothing offensive in James’ post. Whilst I consider myself to be a fairly well-educated, articulate and able individual, there are others who probably view this site who aren’t computer-literate and just about know how to access the posts. Some people may have difficulty in navigating the web so the Newsblog could be an absolute godsend to them.
We all need to remember that we aren’t all the same and some will use this website for different reasons to others. James, Bertie and the rest of the team at BCC will have to consider the bigger picture and cater for the variety of different users. They do a great job really. (I do have athing for computer ‘nerds’ though - my hubby is one ha ha).
Well said lindiloo!
