Hi i feel a bit foolish asking this. I have found a tiny lump in my breast and it is quite uncomfortable to the touch but i don’t want too panic and run to the gp’s as it could be nothing. Can anyone describe the pain feeling to me so i can be a bit surer before i go to docs.
thanks
angie
hello angie
most painful lumps arent breast cancer, however any new lump should be investigated… some people choose to wait for their period to check if it is cyclical.
but what i would say is its not wasting your GPs time… go and get it checked and if there is a lump there the GP will refer you to the breast unit to gte it checked out.
you havent said what age you are but if you are a younger woman then it has a much higher chance of being a cyst or fibroadenoma than anything sinister.
let us know how you get on.
good luck

Hi Angie
If it’s enough to get you to ask on here, it’s enough to bother your GP with. Book yourself an appointment, ask to be referred to a breast clinic, and let the experts take a look.
Don’t worry too much about it if possible, as most lumps that are referred to breast clinics turn out to be NOT cancer. Take a look at the Publications section on here to find out what to expect from the breast clinic, and to learn a bit about what else it could be, cysts for example. Cysts are pretty common and very alarming when they come up, but they can be identified and drained at the clinic so that you need no further treatment or follow-up, and you can use the clinic to teach you the best way to examine your breasts in the future, which will be a really good place to be.
Best of luck, book that GP appointment and please come back and tell us how you get on, we like to read good news stories.
Dear Choccie
Many thanks for taking the time to answer my question. You have already put my mind at rest. I have this thing about wasting docs time and its never easy to get an appointment(unless your on your last legs lol) I did have bowel cancer 3 years ago so you would think i would be banging the surgery door down, but old habits and that. Once again thanks so much for your time and i hope you keep well. Will let you know what happens.

According to Cancer Research UK, about 80% of breast cancer lumps are benign (not cancer). Whatever the pain, it is important that you go to your GP in order to find out what the lump is - likely to be a cyst, but the sooner you get it analysed and potentially treated, the better.
If nothing else, then you can stop worrying about it.
Watch this video I found on YouTube if you want to know more about symptom and why it is important to go to your GP as soon as you suspect something…
