A query re deodorant

Hello

Just a quick question.

Up till now I have not used deodorant under the arm that had all the nodes removed (unfortunate for my work collegues that sit to my left I know!) I have just been to John Lewis and bought some Tisserand organic tea-tree lemon and rosemary deodorant( it doesn’t have any parabens or aluminium in it) because I thought it would be okay to use under my node-free arm. Is that correct?

Thanks

Hazel

Thats what I understand to be the case as well and use one from Holland and Barrett - Earthly Elements - Herbal Magic Deodorant which seems to work well despite the main ingredient being Algae Extract!
A friend has given me a Pit Rock Natural Crystal Deodorant which I have also seen at H&B but not tried yet as I like the smell of the other one ( must be that algae)
I’m sure lots of people will give you ideas of other deoderants to buy and places to get them from.

Hi Hazel

I have been using the Pit Rock Natural Crystal Deodrant which I got from boots, which works fine. Tesco also do one which you add water to it.

Mary, I think people get scared that there are chemicals in normal deodorant that can contribute to breast cancer. It’s quite a controversial issue, and several studies have shown no link. However, even though I like to think of myself as a rational soul, and I know of these studies that show no link, I’ve still changed to Pit Rock. After all it seems to work OK, and I know of no health concerns, however remote, associated with it.

Hi - I use a deodarant from Neal’s Yard which is an organic one - they do a couple of fragrances. I find they keep me quite dry. I used to use a men’s deodarant and wonder if it was that that caused the cancer - we will never know.

In addition to what roadrunner has said I heard another explanation. Because you have less nodes they will have to work extra hard dealing with the chemicals in the antipirsperant and of course its not a good idea to overload the lymphatic system hence avoiding them.
And so at the moment I use an antiperspirant on the good armpit (as I don’t believe it causes bc) and a deoderant from H & B on the other (which has the less lymph nodes). must remember not to mix them up!.

Having had rads the arm pit sweats very little and I was told at the time that some sweat glands can be destroyed by rads - heres hoping.

I hadn’t noticed my rads armpit not smelling as much, magsi! In fact I smell far more now than I ever did - fear perhaps?
Have bought the H&B deodorant but not tried it yet.

I used Pit Rock for a couple of years after my op but stopped when I read an article by a doctor (?) in the Daily Mail who said that the natural aluminium in Pit Rock would be little different than the artificial aluminium in most deodorants (i.e. the ones I was avoiding). Have no idea whether this is true or not, but it was enough to stop me using it (and I had just bought myself a new one as well!).

I use Biosen daily and when I need it Right Guard (when I know I’ll get hot and very sweaty). No problems as yet except my ‘good’ armpit smells more than my unlymphed one.

Gwyn:- Interesting to hear about the pit rock which I’ve got but not used, think I’ll investgate that further
Linnietom:-. Just had a sniff of my arm pit - no problems must be that Algae extract!
Definitely less sweating from that arm pit, the bottom half of it doesn’t sweat is always dry, hair free and soft baby skin but also numb!
Probably depends on where you had the rads I suppose, mine were to the chest wall following a mastectomy. Tatoo in cleavage (or where it was) and one below arm pit and zapped from two sides - perhaps that explains it.

I used the H&B deodorant today on my ‘good’ armpit and left the blitzed one alone - guess which one got soggy, yep - NOT the blitzed one! The other one didn’t smell though so that’s some consolation at least. ;o)
My skin isn’t baby soft, not yet anyway - too soon after rads, it’s all lumpy. I’ll have to work on it. I think our tattoos match, magsi (whisper - but I do have a cleavage).
Take care all

Being 34A I only had a cleavage in one of those underwired, padded, push me, pull you type balcony bras -so I suppose what you never had you don’t miss - ahhhhhh.
