A red line rash - a panic

Just signed up as I’m already stressing.
I had investigations, mammogram and ultrasound last year for what felt a tiny painful lump when pressed, was given all clear and to take painkillers if it bothered me.
In the last couple of days I was unsure if there was slight indentation around left nipple, like a tiny moat if you will. Yesterday a red line about inch long appeared down the side of it, almost like an infected scratch, I can’t think of a reason for that to be the case. Then this morning a slight redness spread on one side of areola.
I have general anxiety and think my family consider me a bit of an hypochondriac, to the point that I don’t even want them to know I’m making a GP appt.

You’re doing the right thing @bettyb1 by making a GP appointment. It is important to get anything like this checked out at the earliest opportunity. The reality is that the vast majority of breast investigations turn out to be something other than breast cancer but, even if it is not probable that it is, it is possible so must be checked out. If you have health anxiety then I’m afraid that you may be in for a difficult time as getting tested will probably take a few weeks. Something that everyone on this forum can agree on is that the wait for the results of biopsies is the worst part as the mind goes to the darkest place. It is tempting to try to research what it might be online and this is dangerous as the information is often generic and alarmist. My advice to you is to take it one step at a time as you haven’t got breast cancer until a specialist tells you that you have and the odds are very much in your favour that you haven’t. As for your family, you could remind them that the boy who cried wolf eventually got eaten!

Dear bettyb1

So sorry to read your post, always better to get check out than sit worrying.

You had some tests last year, so I thinking you are in the system at the hospital you attended. Why not give the breast cancer team a call, they may offer to see you, this would bypass your GP and could get you an early appointment.

Wishing you well, please let us know how you’re getting along.

Although not BC related, my husband cut his hand cleaning gutters. A red line started at his hand and began going up his arm, a sign of blood poisoning. I took him to the emergency room, it was an infection.

I’ve managed to get an appointment with a GP at a nearby community hospital on Sunday. She can make referrals so at least I don’t need to wait to see my own GP.
