Abdominal distension

Smx two days ago. Very distended abdomen since yesterday evening after eating and finding compression vest very tight. Tummy more uncomfortable than the actual op site, pacing up and down. Any help please?

Anaesthetic can do funny things to your digestive system so hopefully it’s just trapped wind or something which I know can be horribly uncomfortable . Strong pain killers particularly Codeine can slow you digestion and cause constipation if not given with a laxative - don’t know if you are on that ?

If you aren’t feeling better by tomorrow though it sounds like you should seek medical help . Xx

Phone your BCN, they will be able to advise, and help resolve so you can feel better again and relax.

Thanks so much for your concern and support , my distension continued to get worse and I eventually vomited an alarming amount of dark fluid (sorry girls probably tmi!) Anyway I collapsed in the bathroom and was taken to hospital by ambulance and I’m now being looked after by the surgeons. Looking at full body ct now. So very concerning :frowning_with_open_mouth: In the best place.
Despite all that , my biggest problem is the pain under my armpit on my smx side. I have of course been moving about far more getting up and down being sick and being examined by various doctors but oh my my armpit is so sore. Could that be the nerve pain thing I have been reading about.
Thanks for being there it is obviously an anxious time as it is for everyone. Just really want to know what’s what.

So sorry to hear that you have a problem on top of a problem - miserable for you. If you are able to contact your BCN or ask the ward staff to do it then I would - don’t assume they will do it automatically . Your BCN might be able to come and see you and update your team and suggest a strategy for your pain. Let us know how your are @indigo2 . Thinking of you . Xx

That’s what I’ve done Joanne.:slightly_smiling_face: All in hand and gastro speaking to breast surgeons. Bed crisis here so have been sent home with odansetron and easier painkillers.
… and the learning curve continues. :sunflower:

Hope you are doing better in yourself as well and that’s it’s something that can be easily dealt with. :crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers::crossed_fingers: Xx

Dear Ingigo2,

Sorry to read you are in so much discomfort, you have had some excellent advice so I won’t add any more.

As Joanne mentioned do contact your cancer nurse at the hospital, I was admitted some time ago they don’t automatically get the information that you have been admitted.

Fingers crossed for a good outcome, with lots of happiness ahead, keep posting to let us know how your getting on

With love Tili :pray::rainbow::pray::rainbow:

Hi indigo2

Thanks for posting.

What a difficult time you’ve had since your surgery. It looks like the responses from @Tili, @JoanneN and @ChristineP22 have been helpful.

Hopefully the surgical team have found the cause for your symptoms and admission and the breast team is providing all the necessary support. I wonder if you have been given advice about what to do now you are at home if any further problems develop. You may need to call 111 or return to A&E if necessary but hopefully not.

The soreness in your arm could be related to the lymph node surgery but you mention being on easier pain relief so this may be helping. You may have also been given some exercises to do.
