Hi Elaine-r
I also had 2 hols booked for this year and like you had to cancel 1 but i rearranged the other 1 for next year. I have just booked a week in Oct to Ibiza it will be 3 months after my chemo. Found insure-pink gave a very good quote on travel Insurance. Hope you get your holidays, I also cant wait for some normality.

I had my last chemo on 23rd December last year and went to Madeira for a week on 11th January. I had no problems at all. The weather was warm and I did stay covered up during the day. I was quite tired but had a lovely holiday. It just set me up nicely before the radiotherapy. My oncologist was happy for me to go on holiday but nowhere near as happy as me!!

thank you best getting looking plenty time on my hands at the min

Hi

I am 3 years past diagnosis and treatment. I finished my epi/cmf chemo in July 2007 and went to Portugal on Holiday early September 2007. I did check with my oncologist beforehand. She said she saw no rason why not. I had a great time, took it easy, covered up and used plenty factor 50 sun lotion. I even swam in the sea. Hope this helps you decide.

Take care

on internet looking see surgen 2moz hoping 2 go on holiday oct thanks my skin is oily and tans well will i still need a high factor dont think is going to be high temp in oct

Hi

I would still wear a high factor just to be on the safe side. After radiotherapy and chemotherapy, I was told your skin is more prone to burning. I wear nothing less than factor 30 now and I still go a nice colour. Have a good time.

Take care

Hi, obviously best to check with your Oncologist but please make sure you have researched travel insurance and have appropriate cover. I went on holiday following a long period of surgery/chemo/rads only to end up in hospital in Lanzarote. It was a dreadful experience and was very relieved to get back to the good old NHS. Insurance initially refused to pay out on a technicality but did eventually. Must mention the first ten days of the hol were fantastic and a real boost.

I went abroad on holiday during my chemotherapy and as soon as I’d finished (before rads) as well.
My onc encouraged me too- the good it did me far outweighed the potential risks- in my view anyway,.

Hiya,

We went to Spain 6 weeks after chemo finished. Had a fab time - maybe energy levels weren’t totally back to normal but good enough. Spoke with oncologist in the first instance and he thought it was a great idea and in the “right” timescale according to him.

Enjoy!!!

Lynn

Hi

I went on holiday a week after rads finished. Mu once said ‘no holidays whilst on cheno’ but I went straight after. No problems.

BRILLIANT

Just wondering what everyone did about holiday insurance???

Hi All
Re insurance-Darcyb this might be useful, I have receieved some ridiculous quotes from some of the more well known companies, but have just got off the phone from a lovely woman at insurepink who gave me a really reasonable quote and made the dreadful questions they ask very manageable. I got their name from the Macmillan website, which has a few other companies, and they have a website of their own.
All the best
