AC regime? Shorter in duration? Anyone help

Hi, Can anyone help please. Haven’t met with the oncologist yet but the breast consultant mentioned to me that she thought the oncologist was thinking of this chemo for me. Can’t be 100% sure but think she said AC and she mentioned 3months instead of longer.

Anyone out there advise me, anyone have any experience of this type and anyone had 3 months (would that be 4 cycles)

I’ll get the chance to hear / discuss in person next week, but meantime I’m curious. Any info greatly appreciated.

Hi Lynn,

While you’re waiting for your fellow forum users to reply, here is a link to BCC’s factsheet called AC Chemotherapy:

I hope this is helpful.

Kind regards,

Hi Lynn

I had AC four lots every three weeks. I think AC is more commonly used in America than here I’m not sure why that is.Perhaps that’s something you can ask. Your b.c. nurse may have said EC which is similar but used more often. I’ve often wondered how oncologists decide who gets what regime.

It’s a harsh chemo but do-able. If it is AC ask for good anti-sickness drugs. You will probably find you will have an ECG before you start this chemo because occasionally it can affect the heart so you need to be suitable for it.

If you want to know anymore of my experience with it just ask,I’m happy to answer any questions but any chemo affects people differently.

Best wishes
Kim

I had 4 lots of AC. First two were OK third and fourth awful but it gets better after that. Stick with it!

I’m going to be having AC x 4 then Taxol x 4. I’m not sure why (i’m having it via BUPA and thought that might have something to do with it). Onc. said to me that she think it “has the edge on” FEC and siad that it wasn’t really an NHS drug coz of £££ (as per usual). I’m having mine every 2 weeks so it does reduce the timeframe from a bit.

I hope you get on OK with it. To say I’m nervous is an understatement.
