ache and numbness

Hallo all,
3 weeks on from surgery.Found a lump first.
Wide local Incision and node biopsy.
Results good. No node invasion.
Invasion from ducts though.
I need to know how long the ache in the shoulder is going to last. Also the underarm numbness stretching over the wound site and to the elbow.Doing the exercises but arm tires quickly and sickly pain if I try to put arm up my back and when I change my clothes. How long did it take for others to get back to normal?
Waiting for an appoint; to discuss treatment path with radiologist.

Hi Jeanie,

I had same surgery as you last October and still have the numbness that you describe. My BCN said this could last a long time due to lymph gland removal. I have the occasional ache in my shoulder and arm and can only say that it has got a lot better over time. I was told to continue with the exercises but not to push it too much.

I couldn’t put clothes over my head or put coat on without help for a while. Remember you are only 3 weeks post surgery so be gentle on yourself!I am sure you are doing really well. I now do things that I probably shouldn’t do without thinking, you will get there.

Take care

Hi jeanie,
I’m at a similar point as you - had WLE on 15th may, but still waiting results from SNB (monday). I also have numbness in my arm and under the arm pit - i’ve read that sometimes it can be permanent. Had cording but that seems to have eased a little over the last couple of days, just keep persevering with the exercises. Shoulder pain just seems to come and go with me…not sure if its the way i’m sleeping. Best of luck with the rest of your treatment.

I was still struggling at 3 weeks after op - WLE and 15 lymph nodes removed - but once I hit about 5 weeks the improvement was amazing and now at 8 weeks past op I have no pain or restriction in movement at all. Take care, LooLoo x

Forgot to say, still numb though! x

Thank you all for the comments.
Really helpful.
Thanks.
