Aches and pains

Hi all,

Hoping someone out there will be able to set my mind at rest, even if only slightly!
I was diagnosed with BC five years ago, a small tumour, hormone sensitive and no lymph involvement. I had a partial mastectomy and I’ve just finished a five year course of Tamoxifen and also had zoladex for two years. Up until recently all has been fine but I’ve now started to get lots of aches and pains, all over but particularly in my back, ankles and wrists. They’ve got so bad that most morning I have to take painkillers to get out of bed! I shuffle down the stairs one at a time, sideways and leaning against the wall like a ninety year old and I’m only 46!
Anyway - as you can imagine, I’m terrified that I have bone mets although I’ve heard a lot of talk about aches and pains being a long term side effect of Tamoxifen.
I saw my doctor yesterday and he’s arranged for me to have a blood test next week and I’m just wondering whether anybody could perhaps give me a bit of perspective / hope until then?
Love to all
Loz x

Hi Loz,

sorry to hear you are feeling so rubbish. Five years on from treatment and finishing tamox etc. you would hope to be feeling so much better, and getting on with life. Yes I too have heard of others experiencing these aches and pains but the do not bear any resemblance to bone mets. I have had bone mets for 7 years now, and I know we are all different. You certainly have done the right thing - you have worries and have taken them to your GP and he/she is doing something about it. I was not hormone positive but I understand the treatment really messes with your body re menopausal symptoms too. Hope you get some answers soon.
