Adjuvant Denosumab Injections

Visited my Oncologist today for some test results.

He mentioned six monthly adjuvant Denosumab injections - helps strengthen bones (I’m on Anastrozole) and also apparently has shown a degree of future protection against bone mets.

I’m possibly not suitable though as I have dental implants - wants to talk to my implant surgeon.

I’ve been googling - never wise I know!  When I asked him about side effects, he said “You may feel flu like for 12 hours or so”.  Looked at side effects on Google, sound potentially HORRENDOUS.

Has anyone had this adjuvant treatment?  Apparently this treatment regime is fairly new.

Hi I’m having 6 monthly Zoledronic Acid (Zameta) via IV, I think it’s something similar to you. I had the 1st with my last chemo end of Feb. My oncologist went through the side effects he said the jaw problems are quite rare but make the dentist aware. I was given a Macmillan fact sheet, you should be able to find it on their website.

I’m having it as it also helps to prevent reacurance.

I’m had my second monthly denosumab on Friday two weeks ago, and I was a bit tired and weepy, but I was happily strolling around an NT garden on mother’s day. They say side effects are worse the first time, and I can’t really comment on that: the day after my first I started some trial tablets, palbociclib, and had a shot of radiotherapy, and was out of sorts for about a week. Given how much better my bones feel now, I wish it had been around years ago when I first had tamoxifen and letrazole. I definitely find the side effects less noticeable than anything else I’ve had.

I have veneers and lots of old fillings, but they seemed more concerned with the my current state of oral hygiene, and likelihood of future extractions.

I hope your treatment package works well for you anyway. Hugs.
