I know this is going to sound ridiculous, but I keep fretting that at my 2nd EC chemo session the nurse forgot to put in the 2nd syringe of the C bit of EC. For my first session, which was via cannula, I was there for about 2.5 hours. My second session, via PICC was just over 2 hours but there was much more faffing about before they got me started and at the end. I’ve just had my 3rd session and that was about 2.5 hours with not much delay.
During my second session, I know they struggled getting the flow started, so maybe they had to put it through a bit more quickly? The nurse was quite distracted and disorganised so I’m massively overthinking this now. I couldn’t ask at my session today as I felt a bit stupid worrying over something I’m sure wouldn’t have happened.
Hi butterfly771
Thank you for posting.
Having chemotherapy can be a worrying time and it’s not ridiculous at all to worry about the treatment you’ve had when the timing is different between sessions.
The time it takes to administer the chemotherapy can differ, depending on how well the IV line is flowing and how quickly the syringe is pushed through, so it is not uncommon for treatment times to vary.
However, as you feel worried do call the chemotherapy nurses, or your breast care nurse, to talk this through. They will have a record of the treatment that was given and be able to put your mind at ease.
Some people find talking to others going through a similar treatment helpful. Our Someone Like Me team can put you in touch with a trained volunteer to talk to for support. You may also find out chemotherapy monthly threads helpful.
Do call our helpline if you would like to talk this through or have any further questions. The helpline team have time to listen, talk things through and signpost you to more support and information if necessary. Your call will be confidential, and the number is free from UK landlines and all mobile networks. The number is 0808 800 6000, (Relay UK - prefix 18001).
If you would prefer one of our nurses to call you. To do this, please complete this form ticking the box agreeing to a call back.
