Advice on FEC t and ability to work?

Hi. I’m starting to get my head round treatment after being a dark place for too long. What started as a lumpectomy with radiotherapy follow up soon became a mastectomy and full node clearance (3 weeks ago). Next stop chemotherapy which I know I will cope with taking a day at a time. I want to try to keep going to work during this treatment, or at least for some of the time. There is no pressure on me to do this but I like work and it’s routine keeps me ‘normal’. How realistic is this? How will I feel during each 3 week cycle? Part of my coping mechanism is having a plan in place so I’m keen to get back some control now I know more about what is ahead.

Hi Alib50, I’m experiencing a similar progression, and am now two cycles in to eight cycles of EC+Accelerated Taxol (so not FEC t).  I have managed to keep working full time so far.  I find I am very tired the week after I’ve had chemo, and work from home one or two days that week, depending on how I feel.  I am also working adjusted hours, doing 10.30 to 18.30 so that I can avoid crowded rush hour trains on my commute.  I think this extra bit of time in the mornings is also helpful, especially to allow for wig faff!  Apart from the week immediately after each chemo, I actually feel fine.  Everyone is different, so it’s hard to plan too much, but so far so good.

Hi Leanne and thank you so much for taking the time to reoly. I’m heartened to hear you are doing well and are able to keep the routine of work going. I too can work from home if needed and may look at a later start time when I get to the wig faff stage.

Hello alib

ive carried on working I only work part time 3 days a week as a cleaner ive had to carry on because of money and paying a loan and credit card but more importantly I find the week goes quicker and its normality I’m not letting this bloody cancer take anymore of my life / finances ! The week after I struggle so a two hour job takes 4 hours lol I just dose myself up with pain killers and anti sickeness not everyone is the same I kind of think I’m Wonder Woman at times then I suffer I need to ask for help which I hate because I like to be the carer .

good luck with your treatment I’m on chemo 5 of 6 this week than god it’s nearly over yepeeee!

I’m like you, normally sorting everyone else out so am dreading the feeling rubbish bit and having to rely on others (again) for help. 5 of 6 sounds good so well done you. I hope I’ll be there soon. Thanks for sharing your experience. A
