Advice on Taxol (Palcitaxel) please??

Hello all X
I start Palcitaxel for 9 weeks next Friday and had FEC X 3 before this. I managed to cold cap through the first 2 and part of the third until it was just unbearable. Anyway so far I have lost quite a bit of hair (slowly) but still have quite thick hair (up to now) and I’ve decided NOT to cold cap through the 9 weeks as I couldn’t bare it. How did everyone find this drug? Did they lose their hair straight away? Gradually? I have been told it will all go and I am gutted beyond belief but I need to prepare myself.
Also worried about neuropathy?

Any advice please ladies xxxx

Hello Scooby

sorry I can’t answer your queries as I am just one week post EC1. Two more to go then start 9x Paclitaxel. But I had a friend who has been through it and I learned that there are cooling mitts for your hands and feet to help reduce risk of peripheral neuropathy. I had never heard about this before but have asked for these for my treatment as I would hate permanent neuropathy.

Good luck!

Thank you xx this is really confusing me about the ice gloves and socks and the oncology staff didn’t know anything about it!! Grrr! Xx

Cant help that much but just to say i am moving to weekly Paclitaxol x 3 as the last 2 taxotere have resulted in hospital admission and oncologist feels it will be kinder. My hair has started go grow back on bthe taxotere (even if eyelashes had continued fo thin) so i am hopeful that will continue x

Thanks Helly xxxx

I had 3 X FEC and 11 X weekly taxol from November 14 to April 15. Taxol is much kinder than FEC. I continued to cold cap throughout, I tried sticking fingers and toes in bowls of iced water but was unbearable. No problems with neuropathy for me. Hair was very thin by the end. Eyebrows thinned slightly but not noticeably. My eyelashes came out a few weeks after I finished treatment but already tiny new ones were growing.

Thanks riverside dawn ??
That sounds quite positive to me.
I know I’ll go bald but I will cross that traumatic time when I come to it… So rubbish all of this xxx
