Am about to finish chemo - no rads - and will be making appointment to discuss my reconstruction next year. We have briefly talked about this already and my consultant feels using the back flap and an implant is the best way to go. Just wondered what I should be asking… what is the time scale… how many operations etc etc
Hi Angie
I’ve had an ld flap + implant. Mine was an immediate recon, so a bit diff, but more than happy to share my experience or answer any questions. What would you like to know?

Hi Angie
I had mastectomy Sept 09 and waited before having the recon which was done in February this year. Glad I did as this was major surgery lasting over 5 hours. But recovery was quick, no pain really. Have a long scar on my back about 5 inches but this will fade in time. I could not believe the results when I looked…really amazing.
Came out of hospital after 5 days with 1 drain (2 were removed on days 3 and 4 in hospital). Had a slight problem with drains being in quite a long time (4 weeks!) but that’s not usually the case.
Was so glad I had it done though. Went on holiday to Ibiza in June and it was great to be able to wear a bikini and you would never have guessed I’d once had a mastectomy! Even the scar on my back was hidden by my bikini strap.
Have a small problem now however…I slipped on the wet kitchen floor about 5 weeks ago and have since noticed my breast looking distorted and the curve of the implant now much higher on my chest. Surgeon said the jolt from the fall could have caused the implant to move but I’m going to have it re-positioned shortly, not a difficult procedure, just means more surgery! So just be careful the first few months after surgery!!
Go for it…you’ll be so pleased you did.
Love
