I am new to this site and my mum has recently had a mamogram followed by an ultrasound and core biopsy. She has now been recalled for another core biopsy. Why is this? Do you think they may have found something? I am trying to find out as much info as possible to help my mum.
Welcome to the forums, I am sure some of the other forum users will be along soon to offer you support and advice. While you are waiting you may find it useful to have a look at the BCC booklet on referral to a breast clinic. It can be found by following the link below:-
It might just be that they didn’t take enough cells in the original biopsy to test it properly. I had a biopsy done on one of my lymph nodes, but they didn’t take enough cells and it came back inconclusive - they then had to repeat the procedure. I know it is easy for me to say, but please try not to worry too much at this stage - there could be a simple reason as to why they are having to repeat the procedure on your mum. Best wishes, Jacqui
as others have said they may be double checking due to not enuff cells … it’s best that they are bing vigilant and re-testing than leaving things to chance.
Thank you to everyone for your comments. My mum went for her appointment yesterday and they have taken another 6 samples using core biopsy. They have mentioned that if it is anything then they have found it before she has found a lump so this would be a good sign. I guess that we just have to wait and see.
Did they give a time scale for when she will get the results of the core biopsies? Wish her well from me and fingers crossed that she gets a clear result. If not it does sounds like it could be early stages so that is all to the good.
My mum is going on holiday next week so the BCN has said she could ring her next Tuesday and she will try and hurry things along before she goes away. Fingers crossed.
