Hi All, My friend has just had a diagnosis of breast cancer with a small tumour near to her chest wall. Does it automatically mean a mastectomy or can a lumpectomy be done in that position?
Anyone had similar position of tumour?
Would appreciate any feed back

Hi Leadie
No lump automatically means a mastectomy. It depends on size and position. I didn’t need a mastectomy

Thanks for that rancidtart, I was interested more in the position of the tumour, If it is near the chest wall does it make it more difficult to have a lumpectomy? Was your’s near the chest wall then?
Hi Leadie,
My friends lump was close to the chest wall, her surgeon said it would have to be a mx, but that was her surgeon, does not mean they all think the same, as we well know!

PS. Love your dogs!
My 2.5cm lump was high on the chest wall. I had chemo first to shrink it successfully followed by lumpectomy.
