Hello everyone. I have recently been diagnosed with breast cancer and already had the lump removed together with some lymphs. My question is about extreme tiredness, I just can’t do anything! Head is so dizzy and just want to sleep, is this normal?? I’m one week post surgery.
Hello Tonib
One week post-op is a very short time and I’m not surprised you feel tired. The combination of the anaesthetic plus the shock to the system of having surgery will have this effect, and probably for a week or two more, or even longer. I felt fine physically after surgery - little or no pain - but I did need an afternoon nap, and I missed the odd 15 minutes of favourite TV shows when my eyes just shut and I came-to a few minutes later! My theory is that my body tells me what it needs to heal and sleep was the main message it was giving me - I complied happily! Don’t overdo it. X
PS I also had cognitive problems even before the treatment, and I think it is that the brain has a lot to process after diagnosis, and normal things get forgotten - or they do with me! Couldn’t even remember the names of some flowers that I want to grow, or a neighbour’s name…and I’m not even having chemo. Just part of the process I think. Still not as sharp mentally as i used to be, and I’m about 13 or so weeks post-op. I’m sure normal service will be resumed before too long.
Sorry, I meant I’m 10 weeks post-op, not 13 - that fuzzy brain thing again! X And still liking the odd afternoon nap…
