Advice request on supporting my mum post-surgery

Hi all

I’m new to the forum so apologies in advance if I’m asking well-worn questions.

My mum got diagnosed with breast cancer in March and has been undergoing chemo (6 rounds). She’s due to have surgery later this month and then will have radiation therapy. I moved overseas just before the diagnosis and she insisted I stay here so haven’t been in a position to do anything more than give emotional support over skype, but I’m flying home a couple of days after her surgery and, as long as everything goes to plan, I’ll be staying with her for a couple of weeks to help during her recovery.

I don’t know what to expect and was hoping that I could get some idea from people who’ve been through this. Will she be really tired and/or sore? Or will she be feeling great and want to do stuff? What can I expect? What can she expect? I want to help her as best I can so any advice - especially dos and don’ts - would be really gratefully received.

My mum was worst during the chemo - very ill due to neutropenic sepsis. She was always tired after all her treatment but the physical support was needed during the actual chemo. Has your mum finished this now? Did it go ok?

I think that’s the hardest part done. It’s great she got through it so well. Hope your mum continues to do really well xx
