After active treatment - follow up scans & tests

Hi all,

What kind of follow up scans (and how often) have you been offered after BC diagnosis?

Do you monitor ovaries, brain, colon, lungs on regular basis for signs of mets?

So far I found that a year after surgery there is a mammogram. Anything else?

And how about younger women - do they replace mammogram with MRI?

Is GP entitled to prescribe some regular test like blood test for liver function?

I am considering paying for some scans/test privately but not sure what to opt for.

Thanks for sharing!

Hi

For me it is a yearly mammogram for 5 years.

But if anything different, new or persistent occurs, should speak to the team.

I have what i think is called open access to the BC team.

Yearly feels too long but i am already half way through the first year.

Hope that helps xx

It’ll depend on your diagnosis and any regular medication. Have you got a nurse practitioner or someone you can talk to on open access follow-up (OAFU)?

I have blood tests every 16 weeks to check for liver function on goserelin / exemestane / zometa, but didn’t previously when I was just on tamoxifen.
