Alendronic acid- anyone having side effects 2 yrs on?

Hi everyone, I had bc in 2008 and had all treatment (chemo, rads and hormone drugs). In 2009, I was dx with osteoporosis in spine and hips. i have been on alendronic acid since then but recently have started to get more and more side effects from it. These are feeling very sick after taking it, stomach pains, burning sensation in throat etc. These problems last about a day but are becoming more and more severe. i have been following the instructions of how to take it exactly - sitting up while taking it, not drinking anything but water and taking it with a lot of water. Can anyone shed light on this or offer any advice ?

Thanks

Rachy xx

I was supposed to take alendronic acid for osteoporosis but didn’t dare start as I get severe stomach ache eating an orange on an empty stomach or anything with vinegar in. I returned my first pack unopened.

My GP has prescribed Strontium Ranelate instead. Trade name Protelos and is taken daily and you shouldn’t take calcium supplements or indigestion remedies 2 hours either side of taking it. It is a white powder sweetened with aspartmane that you stir into water. I take mine before bed.

I think it works because my back is feeling a lot stronger than it used to and the niggling pain I had has gone. I take the ADCal tabs as well.
