Hi, I’m Ali 52 from Glasgow, had oncology visit yesterday to sign consent forms etc. so I start my first chemo session on 26th march, it’s paclitaxel once a week then every 4 weeks I get a combo of paclitaxel and phesgo. Is anyone else on or have been on this regime? Didn’t realise a Monday was bloods @ gp then Tuesday face to face at hospital then Wednesday chemo day. I wish everyone the best of luck on their chemo journey. Much love xx
Hiya Ali, yeah… it’s a full-on few days. I get bloods on Wednesday, Face to Face on Thursday then chemo on Friday. Oh joy of joys lol. After you’ve had chemo you should get a phone call during the week from your McMillan Nurse too just to check how you are and if you’ve any side effects
Hey Tracey how are you? Hope you’re doing as good as can be? Going to be a busy few days ha ha. My Echo was good, nurse said I had a really strong heart considering I was overweight and have diabetes, cheers for that mate . All bloods were great apart from my diabetes they went up from 49 to 60 that’s what happens when Ali stuffs her chops with all the goodies she’s not to have ha ha. Much love to you and your fur babies
xx
Hi. I went through a very similar regime to you. I finished chemo in April 23 and then had mastectomy in May 23. I don’t know if you know about the someone like me service that Breast Cancer Now offer - I found it a tremendous help. My treatment was easier than I expected, and although I did get lots of side effects, the nurses were great and always provided remedies which helped enormously. I would recommend always asking for remedies for any side effects you have as it will really help. I had a bag of lovely stuff too. I used to take it to each chemo session; lots of water, nice soft blanket, book, phone and iPad, biscuits and sweets and my lunch, hand cream, spritz for my face. Anything you think will just be a nice addition. I ate what I wanted on the day of chemo - it was my treat myself day so I just ate what I fancied. I know it’s good to be healthy but this was just my treat day. By the way, I am now cancer free so it all worked and was all worth it. All the best. xxx
@k_123 congratulations on being cancer free that is amazing news. Thanks for replying to me and for all your advice it is much appreciated. I will follow everything you said and hopefully things will run smoothly. Iv started getting some stuff in like lounge suits, face mists etc. my best friend of 39 years has bought me a big chemo care pack and there is loads in it. Going to get myself a number 4 at hairdressers 2 days before as I’m not doing cold cap and the thought of my hair falling out gives me the fear, so I’m good to go on the 26th.
Take care & much love
Hahaha that’s made me laugh Ali! Stuff your chops all you want! Lol. Did you get a photo of your heart?? Hey… you take your compliments where you can get them!
I forgot to answer you back re cold-capping… I didn’t do it because it’d mean spending a couple more hours in the chemo unit so I got my hair cut short the week before my first chemo. It was weird when it started coming out but! I’ve still got wispy strands left but I’m in two minds whether to shave it all off or not. My son-in-law told me he once shaved his head and having a shower felt really weird afterwards… it does feel very different lol. Also, I didn’t bother shaving my legs before the chemo because I was told I’d loose all my body hair but I haven’t done and now I look like my legs belong to Chewbacca off Star Wars lol.
I got a lovely wig from a place in Galston with the NHS voucher. You can get a wig up to £400 with it. Mine should have been £330 the wig lady said.
Love to you, your Hubby, Daughter, Cats & Dog xx
Glad heart scan went ok.
Yes, appointments can be full on. My oncologist let me do telephone appointments after a couple of rounds to allow me to work.
Might be an option for you.
Good luck x
Chemo care pack sounds great. I cut my hair very short before chemo and then shaved it off before my 2nd one as the tufts were bothering me. Jennifer young scalp mask is great too. I also felt the cold on my scalp so got lots of soft beanies. Good luck for 26th. Sending hugs xxx
@traceyp23 was so glad you replied. Ye I saw my heart but couldn’t look as I’m a big woose . I could hear the beating and whooshing and was like oh well iv defo got a heart ha ha. Wait til I tell you what happened today. I went to the Beatson for my chest MRI, goes in with the gowns on, nurse comes out and looks at me and says I don’t think this will be happening today, I’m like Eh? She said they never put your weight on and unfortunately the mri for boobs is an old scanner and it’s very small (felt like a big Elephant)
. She takes me in shows me it and says you want to give it a go? NOPE there’s no way I’m going in that thing, I will have a panic attack. So she goes into the office makes a call and they phone me from the new Victoria got an appointment for Friday morning in the BIG scanner yayyyyy!!! Mortified was an understatement, they tried everything not to say I was fat
.
2 buses there and 2 back, 4 hours later I was home but it was a wee day out ha ha.
How are you doing? Hope you’re as good as can be. Love to you and your fur babies
Lmao that’s given me a giggle, bless you! The same thing happened to my pal when she had to go for her MRI. She kept telling them she wouldn’t fit but they wouldn’t listen and tried to squeeze her in
How are you feeling now about things? I just wanted to get the treatment started and over with. Are you all organised and ready to go?
I go for my last EC chemo this Friday thankfully
I had my daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter up visiting at the weekend and it gave me a real lift it was so good to see them.
Love to you all
@traceyp23 hey how you doing? Iv been quite busy so iv not been on. So had my first chemo yesterday had Phesgo which was absolutely fine, put on the iv paclitaxel that was a drama llama I took an allergic reaction to it, very common. So I ended up with 3 double doses of piriton via iv throught, Jeezo I was out my head I thought I had morphine or something . Got up to go to toilet I was staggering everywhere ha ha, knocked a load of paperwork off the table. I was in there from 9.15 til 4pm through all the drama haha. So so far I’m feeling great, no side effects so far. So long may it continue. Can I ask when you got your first MRI did you have to go back to see the surgeon? Iv to go next week and I’m worried sick in case it’s not normal to see him and he’s going to tell me bad news. Anyway I hope your well and sending love to you and your fur babies
